Default MEC Bag - broken zipper

I've got an older (8-9 yrs) MEC bag of which the zipper has just failed.

Does anybody have experience with their warranty?

Yep, should be easy to either have it fixed or replaced or credited.

Just go in with the item and show them. I've never had an issue.

They will give you a full credit for the bag if you say that this bag did not meet your expectations for durability. They generally don't fix anything.

However if you feel you got fair use out of the bag I would encourage you not to do the above as warranty abuse will lead to only heavier more durable products being stocked and a reduction in the quality of the warranty.

They don't do that anymore. They fix everything that can be fixed, and will offer full credit within reason. A broken zipper on a decade-old bag will very likely fall "out of reason" in terms of obtaining a full credit.

This is their updated warranty terms:

HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT MY STUFF TO LAST?

Members come here for quality and value, but even quality items have a practical lifespan. They will eventually wear out and can be damaged by accident, neglect or misuse, so those things aren’t covered, but can be repaired for a reasonable fee.

We view the spirit of this guarantee in the same way we view the spirit of this co-op: provide good gear, give good advice and deal fairly with one another.

Although this is totally within our rights and the lifetime warranty cost is built into the original price of the item, I always feel embarrassed claiming warranty on an item which has clearly been well used and served its lifespan.

I had luggage which had lifetime warranty through the store Bentley. I had kept the receipt and had it for close to 10 years! It had gone on many trips with me and the zipper started sticking in places and the pull handle mechanism had broke. It was dirty, all scratched up, frayed. Technically I could of probably returned it, but I threw it out instead.

MEC is awesome with this stuff. Same with Costco. Bring it back, and you'll get a refund or they'll try to repair it I think.

I'm definitely not looking for full credit - I just want to get the bag repaired. If I have to pay so be it.

I don't know if I agree with the consensus sentiment. I bought a backpack there, and was heavily sold the lifetime warranty. It was at least 3x expensive as buying a cheap one elsewhere, and the zipper went after 5 years. When I took it back for repair/replacement, they were really rude about and refused to do anything. Personally, I won't shop there again.

I still have one of the OG MEC "Klettersack" packs that I bought in 1993. The thing is a cockroach - has been heavily used for decades and still going strong until the top lid zipper let go a couple years ago. I felt stupid even taking it in there as the bag has obviously been through the wringer and I was more than willing to pay for the repair, but they did it for me for free, no hassle, no problems. I'd say that's a pretty rock solid warranty.

there is a place somewhere near blackfoot and 42nd (not far from that holy smoke BBQ) that repairs luggage as an alternative.
