It depends on whether the team decides to shelter him in his first season.

I will say if Johnny makes the team I think he has a decent chance at leading the team in scoring.

Well... in my be a GM mode, he scored 60 as a rookie (I didn't play any of the games) and won the calder (obviously). This was as a 76~ overall playing with our normal roster (aka backs and hudler on the first line).

What irked me is that after that season he progressed a grand total of 0 points overall.

So yes, if NHL 14 is any indication (green text? lol) he'll definitely score at least 50 as a rookie.

Selanne's rookie season is easily one of the best individual seasons I ever watched as a hockey fan. Very excited to hear Gaudreau is going to have a similar season!

Ovechkin. Nobody touches Selanne's rookie record of 76 though. Unreal.

Realistic predictions for me are something like 15G 20A for 35 pts.

I think I predicted around 10G 15A 25P for Monahan's rookie season (22G 12A 33P) who exceeded expectations. Knowing Johnny though he'll probably still have something like 0.5 PPG in the NHL.

I'm going 0.5 PPG with 20 goals and a -22 for a green jacket with the Flames

50 games played would be impressive enough. Geez... he's my size and the idea of playing out on that NHL ice scares the sheet out for me. I'd be VERY IMPRESSED if he manages 75 games played and is still alive.

Gaudreau?

Who is Bob Hartley is the bigger question? One will not succeed without the other.

Hartley teaches work ethic, and I applaud that but..... He also teaches every player on the team should be able to play with each other. I agree in principal but reality is another thing! I have seen Hartley break up chemistry between players. He is more of a mad scientist than I, so I give him the benefit of the doubt.................for now.

I wonder though, in five years will we be talking about Johnny Gaudreau like past prospects? IE Mark Savard, and Marty St. Louis. History says we will, but I hope not.

You do not use a race horse to plow a field. I am more worried about our coaching than the player. If Gaudreau ever sees third or fourth line minutes (unless recovering from injury) Hartley should be fired.

Realistic? For Johnny consistency Gaudreau?

This is a kid whose been over a PPG at every level of hockey he's played. He'll be at the very least Monahan's level of production. I'll actually be shocked if he has a worse rookie season than Sean.

Edit: I think I got the numbers switched around, I thought your Monahan predictions were for Johnny. But I'd still wage he surpasses 35 pts.

No, he shouldn't and he won't.

This is the very embodiment of an overreaction. I expect that there will be plenty of reasons that potentially arise in the course of a full NHL season which would see Gaudreau playing third and fourth line minutes as a necessary part of his development and success.

For what it's worth, I tend to agree with djsFlames. Gaudreau has never struggled to score at any level at which he has played, and rather has a proven track record of adaptation to every new challenge that has accompanied his progression from one league to another. We saw it when he was first playing at BC in 2011—he was so, SO small, that he was not supposed to survive amongst much bigger, stronger, older and more mature players. It took him about six weeks or so, but by November he was a regular scoring threat, and by January he was tearing Hockey East apart.

Betting against Gaudreau is proving to be a fool's errand. I expect him to register at least .5 point/game in his rookie NHL season.

I enjoyed Gaudreau's brief run of dominance here while it lasted. Hopefully he finds success in the greener pastures he's moved on to, like Savard and St. Louis.

As for Gaudreau playing on the third line, I think our first three lines are pretty interchangeable but probably in terms of responsibility the Monahan line would be our third line. I'd be happy, if he makes the team to see Johnny playing with Monahan and Colborne.

History says that because it happened 20 years ago?

The history says we'll won a Cup too because we did that before!!!
