Given that he was on pace for an 82 goal season last year I'd say anything less than 70 would be a massive disappointment.

Maybe he will score 25 in the A for his first 20 games, then score 25 more in the NHL after he gets called up. Ahh, who knows...

He won't score 50, but I think he breaks 50 points. He'll be more of a playmaker in his first season because when he played at a higher level than college last year it seemed his playmaking ability translated best early on. Scoring will improve later, but he could still easily pot 20 Imo.

Joe Nieuwendyk had 51 goals 92 points in 75 games and the Calder, as a rookie, in 87-88.
Hard to believe that could be even close to duplicated by Gaudreau.
A lot tougher to score in this era.

Let's face it, Johnny is and will be the more skilled player, and Monahan managed to put in 22. So..

Assuming Johnny makes the team out of training camp, his productivity will also be very dependent on the amount of ice time he gets, linemates, etc. This makes predictions very much guesswork. That said, I think 40 points is more than possible.

The odds of a single rookie hitting 60 points this season is less than 50/50 I would say.

Hahaha, ice time... that's good. Someone's going to push Johnny down to the third line? Who exactly? I'd like to see that.
I give it two weeks before he's getting top 6 minutes and 1st PP minutes.

Gretzky and Lemeiux didn't reach 50.
In fact, only 4 players have. Selanne, Nieuwendyk, Bossy, and Ovechkin.
He'll probably score 49 though.

He has an NHLE of 63 pts and his best season was 39G 41A, which corresponds to about a 31G 32A Jeff Skinner-like NHL season. I'd be ok with that!

Previous AHL rookies with 50-goal seasons were Patrick Lebeau (50 in 1990-91), Stephan Lebeau (70 in 1988-89), Brett Hull (50 in 1986-87) and Mitch Lamoureux (57 in 1982-83).

For whatever reason, the AHL is a very, VERY difficult league in which to score. Alexandre Giroux was the last player to score 50 goals in that league in 2009–10, which followed up on a 60-goal campaign the previous season. He is one of only three players to reach the 50 goal mark since 2001. As odd as it sounds, I would almost expect Gaudreau to have a higher output with a full season in the NHL than in the AHL.

Could that be because scorers get called up?

It has something to do with that. Although, it seems to me that offensive players who spend any length of time in the AHL also tend to produce results considerably lower than what one might expect given the level of play.

I think he'll score 50 goals, headshot Cooke into retirement, and beat Lucic up in a fight.
