makarov was all world. So lucky to have seen him.

Ed Ward was a smart guy. He knew he didnt have enough on the ice to stick, but he would drop the gloves occasionally, and worked the hardest off ice of any guy on the team. Made him highly attractive to expansion clubs because he was so good in the community. Was always glad to see him stick for a few years post Calgary. That he got invited to th skills competition didn't hurt either.
(and I'll admit hoping he would pull one out and win the hardest shot, or at least a second, at the all star game).

Makarov was such a treat to watch. One of my all-time favorites.

Saw an interview with Roberts recently and he was laughing at how Makarov would mock him saying " pass on stick" , and said how responsible he was for soo many of his goals. All-time all world KLM !

And I'd say: 'Sergei, you're going to get some pucks in your skates; that's just the way it is.' Or he'd go: 'Robs, why you yell for puck?' Just go to net, puck will be on stick."

Usually, it was. In fact, As Roberts approached 50 goals for the first time, largely because of Makarov's play-making, the Russian asked him - a la Rumpelstilskin - what would he do for him if he helped him get to that plateau? Roberts promised to name his next born child after Makarov. When Roberts got there, and was asked about it, the answer was: "Guess we're not going to have any more kids."
