Sigh.
If we lose Burke and/or Treliving because that guy is still having to have final say in hockey decisions I'm done.
IMO this team is on the verge of being a real force, and we don't need King or a King puppet destroying it.

Also if King's blessing was required I have a hard time believing he wouldn't have been 100% available the entire time until completion of the deadline.

Lazar was a last second trade that got reported after the deadline wasn't it?

Can we just fire Ken King all together already?
This whole arena project has been a disaster, and if he is trying to meddle in hockey operations then he needs to go.

The thread for the trade was started at 12:53pm on deadline day. So, not after the deadline, but pretty darn close.

King has always meddled in hockey operations. It's pretty clear he was the one who opposed any rebuild until Iginla was well past his prime. It was assumed Burke was brought in to put an end to the meddling.

Yes Feb 26 was the Bishop Trade. The story adds up but probably gets the deadline detail wrong.
That also gives plausibility to the phone not being answered due to it being Sunday.
Either way after CalgaryNEXT and watching Elliott melt down someone should be telling King to go home.

Apparently Friedman said on Edmonton radio that he wouldn't be surprised if Conroy was a front runner for the job if Treliving didn't come back.
He also wondered if the Flames would give Treliving an offer he wouldn't be able to refuse or a token offer they know he won't accept.

I think King has been involved in hockey ops for a while. When Keenan was fired, he said it wasn't Darryl who called the shot, it came from higher up. King is the long rumoured and the obvious culprit. It can't be soon enough for the Flames to get rid of him in all his capacities.

I for one, am anxious to see what Tree can do without the NDP sabotaging his plans.

Care to speculate on that last bit? i can't listen right now so I don't know the context. Seem like opposing ideas.

I guess it's possible King might need to approve any trade involving retained salary.
Either way, if we lose Treliving because of King, I'm probably done for a while.
Don't blow this, Flames.

Yeah, this is an odd conjecture. It makes me think that Friedman is spitballing more than usual.

In a year where everyone (worldwide) tasked with a major decision has in fact blown it, I'm not encouraged.

Would it be safe to assume that if Treliving goes, that Burke would as well?
This just makes me feel sick. Treliving is the brightest piece this organization has, and we're risking him for what?

I love Conroy but man I just don't know if he's ready to be calling the shots for an NHL team. A little too much of a Joe Nieuwendyk, Craig MacTavish type hiring for my tastes.

We've already seen what happens when Ken King tries to do things he has zero qualifications for, so hearing rumors that he's meddling on the hockey operations side of things as well is pretty disheartening.

Because ownership absolutely loves Ken King. The man deserves credit for hiring Darryl and turning the franchise around but that was well over a decade ago and the more he's been involved the worse things have got for the franchise. Heck there were even rumors he was driving Huff away from the Stampeders so it seems he's just a meddler.
