Austin is a fantastic food city. Some favourites other than the BBQ joints;

Space Center is SE of Houston but is on the route between Houston and Galveston.

Downtown Dallas is pretty good with lots of bars and restaurants along Elm and Commerce. Some places are really cool and the nightlife is pretty good.

Trying to key in on neighborhoods to stay in etc
The water at Gavelston is pretty gross

Sorry, that was a mistype - thanks for thr correction. I meant road between Houston and Galveston, just off the I-45.

We stopped there on our way from Galveston to the Houston Airport.

Yeah, it is definitely a cool place. We went for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing and we were there the day after Chris Kraft died. It was also right at the same time that they restarted the control room tour/presentation which was pretty awesome.

No recommendations, but I'm jealous! Was hoping to find time for a trip down to somewhere in the total eclipse area, but couldn't make the time.

I've enjoyed a few microbreweries in Austin - Live Oak and Jester King are my faves. Franklin for barbecue was amazing. Texas Chili Parlor for some after drinking grub.

I can't recommend the Marriot, I stayed on points but it badly needs an upgrade. Anywhere near DT/the capitol would be pretty walkable to most places especially for good restaurants and bars.

Stubbs BBQ in Austin. It would be what The Palomino aspires to be. It was so good I brought my wife there the next day for lunch. The other good thing about Stubbs is it’s very close to the State Capital which was well worth a visit and a tour. My tour guide was a fantastic lady (who let her more democratic views slip out to this Canadian.) That was almost 12 years to the day so she’s likely gone but well worth the tour regardless.

But on the other hand, you can take your truck on the beach and driver over all the sea turtle nests.

I can tell you thr Dallas Metroplex is home to the reigning World Series Champions, the greatest baseball team in history.

Also Dallas is oddly famous for their book depositories.

I was in Galveston once. Have to say I was expecting much more. The beach was littered with dead fish. The ocean is there I guess.

Dont go in with high expectations and you will probably find it better.

Really cool place to drink beers and listen to live music. Has food trucks too

It's in a really neat area in Dallas called Lower Greenville I think. Lots of bars and cool stores
