At the 0:33 second mark, why the hell would they feature a goal being scored AGAINST the Flames?

I remember that run. First year out of high school. Electric Avenue wasn't yet a scene (basically just the Keg) and sports pubs weren't a thing either. Hotels had the big bars back then, so that's where you went with friends to watch the game. Bought my first flames jersey, a white home jersey, at Woolco for (I think) 20 bucks.

Of course, it was virtually impossible to get single game tickets, what with them playing in the Corral.

Flames fans were pretty lucky to get a half-decent group instead of an expansion team that would takes years to gain respectability.

Now I sound like Grandpa Simpson. No onions on our belts, though.

Anyways I remember walking him at night listening to the Flames playoff game on my watch/radio/calculator that had a mono headset, and could only pick up AM radio and only if you weren't around any kind of shrubbery.

Those were great nights when Peter was still young.
Peter Maher didn't do radio play-by-play that first year in Calgary - it was Bart Dailey.

Anybody remember Darryl Sutter's tying goal for the 'Hawks in game three in the first round? One of the flukiest goals I've ever seen.

Game Host was Maher though.

CTV had a brief feature on the North Stars series back in April. Love the old clips. They're so rare!
Gotta love Russ Peake! I was at that retro night this season when he was back in the announcer's chair and I have to say I think I prefer him to Beazley.

There was also a "Fight Song" called "Fan Those Flames." Some Country artist whose name escapes me. Got some rotation on CFAC. All I remember is a line about Willi Plett.

Woah this thread has been an awesome flashback for me. Things I haven't thought about since I was a kid.

Bunch of old fackers in here. Get off my lawn.

I distinctly recall Pat Riggin destroying a Dino Dinosaur plush toy tied with string to a hockey stick in a game-ending celebration after some fan hung it over the plexiglass . He used his goalie stick to bat it like a piñata.

Yeah as Reggie mentioned the bars you went to in order to watch games were always in hotels at the time. Carriage House, the Majestic, Trade Winds,The Stampeder etc... At one of those places they had pitchers of beer for 4 bucks during games...cant recall which one it was.

That series against the Flyers was a doozy...they were still a very good hockey team and still really tough as well. They could score...man could they score. I remember the Flames losing game 5 or 6 to the tune of 9-2 (or something like that) and me thinking it was likely over for the good guys at that point. Thats when Riggin decided he wasnt going to lose and was outstanding in game 7 in particular.

As already mentioned losing to the North Stars didn't seem so bad because no one was beating the Islanders anyways.

Good memories and a boost the city needed at a very very dark time in its history.

My Dad had seasons tickets to the Corral that first year (front row in the corner which was good for some flying elbows) and I went to a few games. I never went to any of the playoff games (dear old Dad took them all for him and his cronies). I do remember watching highlights (on 2&7?) after they beat Philly and I remember Brad Marsh lighting up a big ole stogie in the dressing room.

It was weird back in the day 2&7 (Eddie) did all of the regular season games and then CBC would take it over for the playoffs. The color guys went over but Ed Whalen never did playoffs that I recall.

And chief punk on that Flyers team was Mel Bridgman. My Grandma just hated him. So of course I had to hate him. I didn't know why, but it seemed like the thing to do.

Early in the next season, he was on the Flames. It was confusing.

What flashbacks!

Reggie Lemelin lived across the street from me and Bobby McMillan lived a few blocks away. I was so sad when the Flames traded away McMillan for Lanny because we loved Bobby. The trade worked out pretty well for the Flames.

The Mel Bridgeman that the Flames got was not the Mel Bridgeman that played for the Flyers and could hide behind some of the alpha goods that team had.

He came here and he became pretty much the softer side of sears Mel Bridgeman.

I loved the Corral. I still like to walk through it when I am back in Calgary. Some very cool photos in the concourse.

My son could not believe an NHL team played in there.

The Corral is very nostalgic and a really cool building, I love the photos in the concourse but it was well, well before my time.

I wish they used it more, I'd love to go and see the Hitmen play there or something.
