I doubt it translates to the pros though. He'd be lucky to top out at 30 pts in the pros. But then again, scouting is an inexact science.

Wotherspoon is another good one. He is having a very good offensive year, considering his previous stats.

If you look at it, all the guys we have in our pool were at one time underrated by our fans, save for SVEn and HOwse. Arnold, Ferland, Reinhart, were underrated at one point.

IMO, NIck Larson is probably the most underrated. I think he will make a better pro than amateur. He reminds me of a david moss, with less positional versatility.
That may be so, but you RARELY hear about him anytime our prospects are discussed. Even throughout this season, there has even been more of an emphasis on Tyler Wotherspoon from what I have heard and read.

I agree with you in that Joey Leach has a limited offensive potential at the NHL level and his numbers this year are more so an indication of the massive role he is playing in Kootenay. If he can add 10-15 more pounds to his huge frame, I believe he can have fill a nice role at the NHL level within three years.

As for Larson, I am impressed by his speed and work ethic every time I watch him. However his offensive numbers are rather disapointing

Johnny Gaudreau with two first period goals for Boston College. They're up 2-0 after 1 at the Hockey East Championship game.

In the Hockey East Championship game!?

Good to see Gaudreau and Arnold have some big game ability. Arnold with the game winner in the Beanpot tourny and now Gaudreau with a big three point game in the championship game.

Yeah, I understand, but last year he had ten plus goals I think 12, in 35-40 games. I just think he has a pro style game, for the reasons you say. But like you mention about his offence, it may lead to him not getting a contract offered. But I think he could be a blend of Bouma and Moss. I think his style of game flourishes in our system. Then again, this is why i think he's underrated. Leach will always be linked to Reinhart, and with his pedigree as a top WHL dman.

I think he gets good amount of pub for a guy who may top out as a number 4. If he does add weight and improve then retain his speed he could be a shoe in for a pro-career. But is he a Shea weber? shea had his breakout after he was drafted and it wasn't that insane of an offensive year for him. Some guys are just built for a pro-style game. This is why a lot of amateur FA's, not a lot, but a fair number excel in the pros: Boyle, AMac, Gio, Bourque*pre concussion et al.

It's just like football in that guys come from no where often. With games like that with such a high attrition rate, it's a thing where an injury here and an injury there then you're moving up the depthchart. Even baseball with its bautista's are good examples.

Pardon the rant, I'm going out to get after it.

Tomorrow's selection Sunday for the NCAA hockey tournament. BC should get a good berth.

Also, watched the Hitmen/Kootenay game tonight beside Peter Loubardias in the press box. He has a very high opinion of Leach, but thinks he may benefit from an overage year in the Dub. He thinks he'll be a good pro (although not necessarily an NHLer).

Also, am told that Max Reinhart is day-to-day with an upper body injury. He was held out as a precaution and should be ready for the playoffs on Friday.

The Heat lost tonight 1-0 in a shootout. A true barn burner.

The goalies put on an absolute clinic. Taylor was a beast and so was the Heat D.

Kolanos had numerous chances to end the game, but Fallon stood on his head. Patterson and Bancks (two very deadly PK guys) had a 2 on 1 shorthanded chance in OT and Bancks rang it off the post.

Fallon stopped Byron, Kolanos, Walter, Jessiman, Sylvester, and Aliu in SO. Taylor stopped 5 of 6 shooters.

Very unfortunate they couldn't pull out the win. The Heat are basically in the same position as the Flames. The Heat are in 6th place, 1 point of 4th place. There's absolutely no chance they'll catch OKC who is in first place. 4 points separate 4th from 10th!

Only 11 games left to play in the Heat's season. Let's hope Calgary starts getting healthy so Abbotsford can get Nemisz, Horak, and Desbiens back. Plus we need Rheault back from injury.

Boston College was seeded #1 in the Northeast Region of the NCAA Tournament. They'll open on Saturday against Air Force. The winner of that game plays on Sunday against the winner of Minnesota-Duluth and Maine.

Yes, it's conceivable that the regional final could be a Maine/BC rematch.

Obviously, as has been mentioned in this thread a number of times, Gaudreau has some physical growing to do. But if he produces throughout next year as he has over these past thirteen games (21 points, +18), and if he has a successful World Juniors (I think he'd make the team), can anyone see him turning pro after next year like Schwartz did this year? Not to necessarily join the Flames, but maybe play for the Heat during the 2013-2014 season?

I think I'd prefer him to play three years of college hockey because B.C. will probably still be a good team, but it may be tempting for the Flames to sign him,...

I realize that there are a lot of assumptions in my post, but are there any thoughts?

Oh, and to chime in with my assessment of Joey Leach, I like him. Very steady and un-flashy, but he's positionally sound and uses his size well.

Doesn't look like Bartschi will be playing in the last game of the season tonight.

If I'm not mistaken, with the regular season over, Sven becomes the first player to finish in the top 10 in scoring while maintaining a 2 points/game average in 13 years in the WHL.

At least we have the WHL playoffs to look forward to. Reinhart gave me some excitement last year at a time when the Flames were unable to.
