I was wondering the same thing. I assumed you had to have a time out remaining in order to challenge.

From the CFL rule book

Quote:
Article 6 – Instant Replay Review
An Instant Replay Review request, challenging the ruling on the field, may only be initiated by the Head Coach, who will throw a challenge flag onto the field, prior to the legal snap of the ball.
Each team will have the ability to execute two (2) challenges per game, if a team is successful on both, they will gain the opportunity to execute a third challenge.
The first challenge will have no impact on team time outs, regardless of the outcome of the challenge.
A second challenge, if unsuccessful, will result in the loss of a team time out, either first or second half.
In order to execute a second challenge, a team must have a team time out remaining.
In order to execute a third challenge, a team must have been successful on both their first two (2) challenges and must have a team time out remaining.
A third challenge, if unsuccessful, will result in the loss of a team time out, either first or second half.
Did Edmonton not have a challenge earlier in the game? If so, by taking the time out, he would not have had a team time out remaining and thus not been able to execute the second challenge. I must be missing something, because there's no way the CFL would miss something like that. Or is there?

Congrats to the Eskimos and coach Jones. He was my neighbour when he was in Calgary and actually is a really nice guy, despite what you all say. (I can see why you don't like him).

Edmonton was the class of the league this year. Next year I really hope the QBs stay healthy. This league needs Durant, Collaros, Lulay, Willy, etc healthy as it is so dependent on the quarterback position. Here's to a good off season and let's all bring a friend or three out in the spring to cheer on the best league in sports!

Well it was nice long 10 years of Edmonton Eskimo irrelevance. Too bad it had to end.

I miss Head Coach Kavis Reed.

That was actually a really good game. Good officiating overall and a close match with stretches of offensive and defensive play.

I've talked with Jones. He is a nice guy. We both ride motorcycles so we talked about that. It was in training camp and we talked about the upcoming season. I sort of understand why many here dislike him but he's a quality person and deserving of hoisting that cup. The hate is over the top. I'm a huge CFL fan and agree that it's the best league around.
