And Roger just withdrew from the French Open, too.

It was always a little ridiculous to think Roger was just gonna show up in Paris without even a single exhibition match on clay. Clay is the worst surface to play on with so many long rallies, and his approach of playing quick points doesn't work on the slow clay like it does hardcourts and grass. Wouldn't surprise me if we don't ever see him play on clay again. I think if he plays 2-3 more years (and I think he will), his schedule may very well be Australia to Miami, and Grass to the US Open, that's it. But that's fine, it maximizes his chances to go out with another major or even two and a couple more 1000 wins.

I would have been more surprised if he decided to play on the clay circuit this year to be honest. I think he can definitely hold up playing the Shanghai, Paris and London Masters (if he qualifies) for another 2 years in addition to the docket you have included.

New rules to be tried at the NextGen ATP 21-and-under finals in November this year in Milan:
- Shorter Format: First to Four games sets (Tie-Break at 3-All), Best-of-Five sets, with No-Ad scoring:
• Shorter set format designed to increase number of pivotal moments in a match, while the best-of-five set format does not alter the number of games required to win a match (12) from the traditional scoring format. No-Ad scoring will be played (receiver’s choice).
- Shorter Warm-Up
• Matches will begin precisely 5 minutes from the second player walk-on, leading to a reduction in down time before the beginning of matches.
- Shot Clock
• A shot clock will be used in between points to ensure strict regulation of the 25-second rule, as well as during set breaks, Medical Time-Outs, and the five-minute countdown from the player walk-on to the first point of the match.
- No-Let Rule
• The No-Let rule will apply to serves, bringing in an additional element of unpredictability at the start of points. This rule will also remove any ambiguity over let calling from umpires, ensuring the rule is consistent with normal ‘let’ occurrences during regular point exchanges.
- Medical Time-Outs
• A limit of 1 medical time out per player per match.
- Player Coaching
• Players and coaches will be able to communicate at certain points in the match (to be determined), providing additional content and entertainment value for broadcast. Coaches will not be allowed on-court.

all ok except the let rule. it's flukey enough in normal play. on serve where the player is receiving 10 feet behind the baseline makes it unfair.

Not sure what happened to Dr. Ivo (looks like he pulled out and a young American took his place), regardless Milos will face Tommy Haas tomorrow at the Italian Open.

Defending champion Andy Murray knocked out of the Italian open by crowd favourite Fabio Fognini.
In front of a packed Campo Centrale, the Italian No. 1 played one of the best matches of his career, blasting 23 forehand winners to upset World No. 1 and defending champion Andy Murray 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday during Murray's Internazionali BNL d'Italia opener in Rome.

Here's hoping he can at least knock off Berdych. Who knows what can happen with Murray out of his bracket now.
Although he's not beating anyone better than he is thus far, the results on clay are encouraging for someone coming off such a lengthy layoff and not on the surface of choice. If Milos can get through Roland Garros healthy, methinks he will do some significant damage in Wimbledon once again.

Zverev will be a tough test. He's having a year and is no slouch on clay. Props to Raonic for coming up with the results he has been since coming back from injury.

Also, John Isner upset Stan Wawrinka in straight sets (7-6(1), 6-4) at the Italian Open earlier today.

I'm going out on a bit of a limb but I think he will be back into the top 100 when the latest rankings are released on Monday. Good on Pospisil for putting his head down and getting it done.
