I believe in the Jays.

I'm not...
A: Estrada has not had a good season,
B: Estrada does not have premium velocity
C: Estrada is not a lefty like Liriano
... Estrada doesn't profile as a traditional reliever and that was what teams wanted in Liriano. A hard throwing lefty they can bring out of the pen. A soft tossing righty in the midst of a bad season isn't going to command much.
Jays are simply wagering that he might be worth more before the waiver trade deadline and if not then they probably have a decent shot to extend him and see if they can get a bounceback year.

Sigh. This team. This freaking disappointing team.
Hope they win, but can't expect wins anymore. Sorry to sound like a broken record but it's the only mindset I can take that will help maintain my sanity while still watching them, and I do still want to watch them play.

Yeah, it's tough to watch, but at least it's summer and I have cold beer. I take solace in that.

So watch just for the game.. Disconnect from the team. Makes life more interesting and far less stressful.

Attaboy Russell!
Should've scored on JD's double though.

Wasnt sure if Morales was going to make it. Not if he would be safe. Just, make it home. He was chugging.

Atkins' exact words were they aren't in the business of making other teams better without making themselves better so he must have felt other teams were trying to rip them off.

That play was pretty funny. Morales didn't go a foot further than he needed to go. Pretty much slid to the edge of home plate and stopped dead.

I don't understand the waiver deadline. Why would teams trade for a player who has passed through waivers? Why don't they just claim them off of waivers instead?

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/140073...-trade-system/
Quote:
• When a player is on waivers, other teams can submit a claim. If more than one team does, those in the same league as that player's team get first priority, starting with the club with the worst record on the day of the claim. Then, the priority moves to the other league, starting with the worst record. For example, if a National League team puts a player on waivers, the NL team with the worst record gets the first shot at him, and the last-place American League club would be right behind the top NL club.
• Once a player is claimed, his team faces three options. It can pull the player back and keep him, negotiate a trade with the claiming team or let the player go. In the last scenario, the claiming team takes full responsibility for the player's remaining salary. If the two sides decide to work out a trade, they have two days to do so.
• If a player goes unclaimed for two days, he "passes through" waivers. His team then can trade him to any other team for the rest of the season, unless he has a no-trade clause, a limited no-trade provision or 10/5 rights (10 years in the Majors, five consecutive years with his current team).

The biggest reason, as Kel's post indicates, is that MLB waivers are revokable. You put a claim in, the team just pulls the player back and then you negotiate a trade.

Oh man...Pillar almost thrown out at 1st after taking too wide of a turn on a single. Got overturned on review, but that was probably way too close of a call for that situation.

Do teams who are lower down in the standings ever use their waiver priority to block trades? Or is there an unwritten rule not to do that?
