The Calgary Flames week ahead: Finally a clash with Connor Bedard before facing the Blues and Kings
The games must go on, even when the inevitable is coming. The Calgary Flames (33-32-5, 71 points) awoke one week ago six points out of a playoff spot. Now, thanks to their three-game losing streak, capped by Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, the gulf between themselves and the Vegas Golden Knights for the Western Conference’s second wild-card spot is 12 points with one dozen games remaining on the slate.
FlamesNation Mailbag: Closing out March’s mailbags with a look towards the off-season
In terms of Wranglers additions: In addition to Joni Jurmo, who’s joining the Wranglers on Tuesday (via Postmedia’s Danny Austin), I would expect to see WHL forward Parker Bell (who’s already on an NHL deal) to join the Wranglers this coming week as his Tri-City Americans have finished their WHL campaign.
Barn Burner: What should the Calgary Flames do with Andrew Mangiapane for the rest of the season?
Mangiapane, 27 years old, has seen a solid decline in production since his spectacular 2021-22 campaign that saw him score 35 goals and 55 points. Through 68 games played this season, the winger has 13 goals and 25 assists.
Boomer: “It feels like the top speed is coming down a little bit. The effectiveness is coming down. We’re not seeing the #### disturber level that we used to see. He looks like a slowing winger to me.”

I am hoping for a loss.
If it is a win, then I hope its a blowup with the right players padding their stats.

6 of our final 12 are against the bottom feeders of the league.
We lost the majority of these games when still competitive for a playoff spot. Now that we’re basically eliminated and wins hurt our draft position, i wonder how we’ll do.
Prediction: win 5 of 6.

Flames couldn't beat the Blackhawks when they didn't have Bedard. I suspect this won't go any better.

3rd game in 4 nights, travel as well. As long as they have a good effort, I can't complain. Then a 4th game in 6 days with travel. Then a 5th game in 8 days. They might not win any of them. Go Flames!

We're currently in sole possession of the 10th pick in the draft. Let's not ruin things by moving backwards.

Little danger of that. Chicago's had our number for a while now.

My guys have been wildly inconsistent recently. The only thing keeping us in games has been Mrazek. Kurashev and Bedard is the entirety of our offense. We have trotted out a rookie, Slaggert to take a look, and have recalled Reichel from the Rock, to see if he should be extended, but, he has gotten little done. Defensively, our coverage has been spotty, but, Jones has been on fire in offensive support. Injury wise, Hall and the pylon, Murphy are still IR, Blackwell, one of our better "energy" guys has also been out, as is Reese Johnson, who passes as our enforcer.
I will, as always, be lurking in the GT. Looking forward to wrapping up this disappointing season, but, still enjoying banter with my friends here at CP!

First game all year where I’m fine with a loss.
They can lose out as far as I’m concerned.

I fully expect the flames to go on a pretty good tear now that it's meaningless and have us drafting 13th where we just miss out on drafting the top centers, defence and Tij.
