Anyone remember monkey bars over nothing but concrete? Even as a 7 year old, I was like, "that can't be safe."

Trust me they were stupid and it got worse when they replaced the concrete with thousands of pieces of sharp gravel.
I did do a monkey slip on it once when I was showing off for a girl that I had a crush on and pile drove myself into the ground below and knocked myself loopy.
She didn't want to have anything to do with me after that.
My luck in showing off for girls when I was younger was legendarily bad.

I remember one kid breaking his leg and they had to call an ambulance to cart him off. Next day at school? Business as usual on the monkey bars. Guess the teachers were too busy smoking in the teachers lounge to GAF. Ah, youth.

Captain:
Isn't that Darwinism at its best? Not wanting to mate with the fool who can't even Monkey Bars correctly!
EDIT:
OMG you suck at Crazy Carpet too! Please never breed!

I always found the inner tube was way more dangerous than the crazy carpet. Get 5 kids packed on one and it'd go like a rocket. Any small bump turned into an opportunity to eject passengers in all directions, bringing knees and chins together. No one was safe, and it usually turned into a last man alive on the tube sort of game.
Plus, our toboggan hill was called Cemetery Hill, due to being located directly adjacent to the cemetery. Always a lovely reminder of where you might end up if you hit the strategically placed power pole at the bottom.

The most damage that I did to myself was going way too fast down a hill on a GT Snow racer. Are those things still around? They were awesome.

In Kindergarten back in Holland, our "playground" consisted of two cars from the wreckers that were placed amongst the trees. It was great.
Whenever we got to the next campground on family holidays (80's), my brothers and I got to stand on the back bumper of the '76 Pontiac wagon, hold on to the roof racks and our dad would tour the campground looking for spots. Later, it became the running boards of the Chevy van.
About 12 years ago, when our youngest was 8 or so, I picked him and his friend up from the community centre and let them ride in the back of my truck (it had a topper with no back window). Maybe a 3 minute drive. I had some lady follow me home and start lecturing me and telling me she was going to call the cops. I wrote down my license plate, gave it to her and told her to go ahead. Bemoei je er niet mee, trut...

My dad used to tow us on a tube behind a car at my cabin and rip around the streets. I was 8 and the middle person of 3 and couldn't hold on as he whipped us around the cul-de-sac, ended up going flying off and down a hill.
There used to be a crazy wooden park at Deer Run Elementary School. It was in 4 different sections that were all different heights. Tallest was close to 3 stories and all connected by monkey bars. We would pretty much parkour all over that thing. They also had metal slides which became fracking smoking hot in the summer and burn you as you slid down.
If I could hunt down the blue prints I would love to build it again.

Yep. Saw a few out today. We had s crazy contraption when we were young. It was like a bike, but has skis instead of wheels. Not sure what it was called. It sat pretty low to the ground, but only had the front and rear ski, and then these metal claw attachments you were supposed to wear on your feet for braking.

The GT Snow Race is, at the same time, one of the greatest and most batcrap insane things man has invented and allowed children to operate.
Those things are a death trap, but you go down with a smile on your face.

Even bigger smile when tying two to the back of a snow mobile and have GT battles.

That playground was so daunting you knew you had to play careful. Loved those old wood multistory ones.

I had neighbours who lost their daughter because of this. A bunch of teens piled into the cab and the driver eventually was going too fast/lost control. This was in winter too.
