IIHF U-18 WJC, Sochi, Russia
Through 2 games of the round robin our large Russian friend Nichushkin only has 1 assist. You would expect him to dominate competition that young. 2014 draft-eligible Conor McDavid is tearing it up with 5 points in 2 games. JT Compher leading team USA with 4. Team Sweden destroying weaker competition with 15 goals for in 2 games.
Stats for quite a few 2013 eligible guys here:

Looks like a few places streaming the games if you do a Google search.

He apparently just flew in for the 2nd game and it was a hard-fought one against Finland. He'll obviously be expected to show a bit more going forward.

Conor Mcdavid isn't available until 2015
Crazy how good he is already.

Yowza. We should attempt to acquire edmonton's first rounder in 2015. Lock to be first overall.

McDavid is going to be a superstar. The best player since Crosby IMO.
You compare McDavid and John Tavares at the same age, and McDavid is the better player IMO.
As for other teams, I'm a huge fan of JT Compher. I have him a lot higher than a lot of other people seem to have him. I love the fact he marries offensive skill, with being an agitator, and a ****** on the ice. Guy you will love on your team and hate on a rival's.

I have a feeling that we'll be tanking hard in the 2014-2015 season for McDavid.

Really, based on all the tanking you see in the Flames history?

I know it's far fetched and dumb to assume that but the Flames realistically are 3 or more years away from making the playoffs again. McDavid looks better than anyone coming into this draft and this draft looks to be a deep one. We should be getting at least one top 5 pick in these next two seasons and in the 14-15 season we could luck out and get McDavid.

McDavid with a hat trick. Canada demolishes Sweden 6-0 to take first place in group B.

McDavid is an interesting case. He actually reported to Erie in the OHL (which is basically the Oilers of the league) where no one really wants to play. Tavares did outscore him as a 15 year old in the OHL however.

Tavares was about 5 months older. Late September birthdate vs a January birthdate.
Tavares was an exceptional player who was only a few weeks too young to be OHL eligible, McDavid was more.
On the ice, McDavid has also impressed me more. He's got a big edge on Tavares in his skating.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Flames were to draft him. NCAA bound center, decent stats and intangibles, projected to be a late 1st round pick (Pittsburgh pick?)... hit's a bunch of the Feaster sweet spots. If I were to bet on who the Flames pick with their last 1st rounder it'd be Compher or Fucale.

McDavid is a superstar. Already dominating against players two years older than him. Who ever gets to draft him is going to very lucky

I'm a fan of taking Compher if he's still there with the Pittsburgh pick. Burakovsky looks like a good player as well.

Next game is against the Czechs in the knock out phase QF. For a 4th place finisher the Czechs have some good stats and shouldn't be taken lightly.
