So does the opponent. The opponent knows you and you have to adapt.

My point was that stats do matter, which is different than saying they are all that matters.
Or maybe all these teams and their analytics groups are wasting their time.

I hear you. But it seems like match up specific coaching is maybe less important during development than being exposed to a variety of opponents and playing styles. Splitting hairs I guess - question is whether they are facing enough different teams and presumably they are.

They don't matter as much as you seem to think. Pro scouts will identify the difference between players with inflated numbers and those with lower numbers but are playing really well.

Yeah. Teams listen to their scouts and look at the numbers. Try not to put words in my mouth.

Stockton Heat @AHLHeat 2m2 minutes ago View translation
Heat sign 5! Mike Angelidis, @Matt_Frattin, Jamie Devane, Ryan Lomberg & Roman Dyukov! http://bit.ly/2bIVKnr
Is this old news? I didn't know about Matt Frattin and Angeldis.

Angelidis is an old guy. Token vet, I think he is pretty good though. He was captain of the Tampa affiliate for a few years. Fell off last year, points wise.
Frattin was a tweener, now an AHL lifer. Veteran depth.

You seem to think they will use numbers on their own, they will not. They will not use any number without context. If they do, they should be fired immediately.

If I have interpreted the CBA correctly, the Flames have potentially 2 Group 6 UFAs for this upcoming season.
A Group 6 UFA is a player who is 25 years or older with at least 3 years pro experience but less than 80 career NHL games if a skater or 28 career NHL games if a goalie.
That would mean Hathaway and F. Hamilton (assuming he signs a 1 year deal with the Flames) could be UFA at the end of this season unless they play 66 NHL games and 47 NHL games respectively.
Maybe not a big deal if you don't think much of them, but could become an interesting scenario for Hathaway if he has a solid season but doesn't reach the 66 games. Gives him some leverage if the Flames decide they do want to re-sign him.

Not Hathaway. "Pro experience" is defined as years under an SPC, so his first year pro under an AHL contract doesn't count. He'll have completed two pro seasons.

have you confirmed that?
The way I read:
Quote:
for a Player aged 20 or older, mean any season in which such
Player plays in one or more Professional Games (including NHL Regular
Season and Playoff Games, minor league regular season and playoff
games, and games played in any European professional league, while
under an SPC).
|
It might only consider European professional leagues while under an SPC to be considered professional and doesn't actually refer to minor league.

The key part of the clause is "while under an SPC." Pro experience only counts under an SPC in most, if not all, of the CBA.

Confirmed with Flames today that only the years under an SPC are important. Hathaway's an RFA this summer.

Stockton Heat @AHLHeat
The Heat sign 3 - Aagaard, Doetzel, Falkovsky - & invite three more to camp on tryouts.

Quote:
The Stockton Heat, proudly owned by the NHL’s Calgary Flames, announce the signing of current camp attendees Mikkel Aagard, Kayle Doetzel to AHL contracts and Stepan Falkovsky to an AHL/ECHL contract. The team also has invited forward Luke Adam, defenseman Colby Robak and defenseman Mikhail Grigorev to attend Heat camp on tryouts.

AHL preseason underway. Stockton vs Tuscon.
Janko ties it up on the PP. 1-1. Assists to Frattin and Kylington
Gillies in net.

Stockton radio crew praising Frattin saying he could be this year's Derek Grant. Apparently Jankowski's goal was all due to Frattin.
Also calling Dyukov and Doetzel as steady non-flashy defencemen.

Sounds like Mangiapane-Jankowski-Frattin are on a line.
Lomberg-Aagard-Poirier a line, Stockton pbp says they have been causing problems for Tuscon with their speed all night. Constant fore-check and hitting. Keeping Tuscon hemmed in.
