"We were confident we could go out and turn things around (after the first period)," Couture said. "We forechecked them hard and they got caught on some long shifts."
Now, who on the Oilers could Couture possibly be referring to, and does that player's name rhyme with "goner?"

Great anthem, great first period, couldn't sustain it. Sharks experience showed tonight. Was never under any illusions this series was going to be anything but a huge test. Up to the Oilers to ramp things up tomorrow night. And stay out of the box.
Oilers clearly were not prepared for playoff hockey. Great start but did not elevate when the Sharks pushed back. Hopefully that theme continues. Will be interesting to see how they respond
The Oilers definitely rode the high from the energy early, albeit a lucky bounce to keep it going. Once the Sharks settled down it was a text book beat down. Held the Oilers to 4 shots in the second, 3 shots in the third and 2 shots in OT. Will be interesting to see how they respond.

Oilers played well for 10 minutes of that game and scored twice over that time. The rest of the time they were utterly dominated. Talbot played well.
The Oilers are in trouble. If the Sharks can shut down McDavid it's pretty much over. The guy is amazing but only human and he has little help.
It surprises me that Oiler fans attribute their current success to anything more than now having a capable goalie and McDavid at this point. The Eberle/RNH tandem is well below average for a second line (a soft breeze can topple those two over) and the rest of the roster outside of Keflbom is pretty vomit educing.
Playoff teams are going to eat them up.

Paging the poster with the hilarious, McDavid-centric, recaps of Oilers losses.

Talbot played amazing and deserved the 1st star. I'd kill to have him in the Flames net. But there's a reason the Sharks have been a Western Conference powerhouse for 15 years. People counted them down and out before it even started. And yet all they do is do what they've been doing for a decade-plus; turn it onto high gear and leave the other team in the dust.
After a long season playing massive amounts of games the oilers rewarded their goalie with a 44 shot shelling last night.
That's wearing especially with the traffic that the Sharks put in front of him.
Hey even as the most vehement Oiler hater I'm not afraid to say the McDavid is a special player (and a special diver). But he can't carry that collection of dead weight by himself and if anything over the last couple of years guys like Eberle and RNH have basically mailed it in and said "Yo Conner you've got this dog".
If the oil is going to bounce back its those two that have to lead the way, and if I'm an Oiler fan that thought would terrify me.
The Oilers might be a bigger meaner team then previous Oiler teams, but the Sharks made them look S.A.W.F.T

I don't think I would "kill" anyone for Talbot to be the Flames goalie. I'm quite comfortable not doing 25 to life and have Elliott continue being a beast for the Flames.

I like Elliott too. But credit is where credit is due. Talbot is a great goalie and IMO is the true MVP of that team.

Without a doubt. Talbot also excels under the conditions of high shot totals and scoring chances. With NHL average starting goaltending this year, we'd be talking about a bottom 10 team with or without McDavid.
Do you think if the Oilers are down 2-0, they come back to win the game? I doubt it. They may get a chance to prove me wrong in the coming games.
Sharks know they have to play hard to win, whereas Oilers "know it" but have never done it. Even those who have are not awe-inspiring leaders (Lucic and Russell are two that come to the top of my mind). Sharks have done it before, Marleau really showed what a veteran forward can do. Surprised he is so steady every time I watch him. Plus, their younger guys aren't young anymore and all seem to play the right way. I hate the Sharks too, but I have somewhat of a respect for them too.
Typical young team collapse by Edmonton. Guess what? This isn't the regular season boys, and when you're up by 2, the other team isn't going to say "oh well, let's try harder next game". There is no next game in playoffs, even in the first game of a series!
Game 2 will be different for them, as the grandstanding will be less. But the need for a win will be even greater, and so we'll see what happens. I am expecting a big Oiler win, but of course, cheering and hoping for a loss.
