Wasn't there a significant number of defectors before the slaughter. These people would have seen the pyre, but not been engaged in the battle.

Ya that is a good point, I can't remember exactly how much but it was a large portion of the army that left through out the night. Where did all those men go? Armies don't just happen to be walking around, they have a very large amount of camp followers to make everything work. Where did that all go? Weird.

Didn't they take most of the horses with them too? Though most were hired sell swords from Brovos, including Davos' smuggler friend. They would have just taken to the nearest port and sailed home.

Davos loved Shireen, I would think at some point he would ask Melisandre what happened to her. Surprised he didn't ask her already at some point earlier at Castle Black.

As for survivors from the Stannis vs the Boltons, didn't Ramsey just kill everyone left over?

Edit: Right... some soldiers walked away after the burning... so truly there would be still people who know what happened to Shireen. At the same time, what are the chances of those people coming back into the story for whatever reason. In saying that... Davos is going to Braavos to speak with the Iron Bank in the next episode, perhaps the lords of Braavos know what Stannis did after word got back to Braavos (seeing as how they were sponsors of Stannis) and Davos will find out soon enough.

Davos did ask her when she first came back to Castle Black.

I thought it was the sell swords that deserted and took the horses.

Now that was an episode! Wow! Great moments for almost all of the main characters. A real sense of the story progressing. Some great laughs, and a sense of dread for what's to come. Fantastic stuff.

Mormont kid is probably the most hardcore character in all of Game of Thrones.

Also a little disappointed we didn't get to hear one round of "San Francisco ##########" between the Hound and priest guy.

Even the episodes without a lot of action are just great this season.

That was easily the best episode of the season IMO. Was great from start to finish. No filler.

I agree. Despite the lack of action the hour just flew by.

I thought Arya would have been ready for that. Seems odd that her guard was down.

Must be a Stark.

Who wants to make a bet that Jaqen H'ghar save Arya next episode.

I'm a little torn on Sansa calling for the Vale Knights to come. On one hand their number should sway favor to the Starks. On the other, it's littlfinger and who knows what his motives are. And on the same hand, how will their general perform knowing his loyalty has been put into question.

How the heck is this blackfish thing going to play out. I've always felt that Jamie Lannister has been coming around to seeing the bigger picture. Does e still go full bore into taking back he castle.
