This team is also missing the stars and the coach and the identity, not to mention the optimism.

We also had a coach who jelked every last drop of talent and effort out of every single player on that team. Those boys played inspired hockey.
The current crop doesn't look like they give a ****.

Exactly my point........character is missing in this group. They look like they play because they have to, not because they want to.

Almost to a man this 2004 team was bigger and stronger and grittier (and less skilled) than Bouwmeester, Butler, Wideman, Smith, Brodie, Tanguay, Cammalleri, Hudler, Cervenka, Backlund, Baertschi, Stempniak
In a skills competition 2013 >>>>>>>> 2004
Feaster was betting that the Refs would be giving his band of merry little skaters 3-4 times the power plays as the other team because body contact was on the verge of being eliminated by the rules. He was wrong.

Ference was a real bottom pairing d. He took a lot of **** here but we've had a revolving door of some really poor players at #6 since.
Conroy and Yelle, defensively responsible Cs who could win a faceoff.
Neimenen, we haven't had an agitator since.
The rest of those forwards are some really good 3rd liners. We almost won the cup with a forwards corps of a bunch of good 3rd liners. Reinprecht and McAmmond didn't even play. Still bothers me.

They are missing the best player the Flames have drafted in 20 years - Brandon Prust.

They are missing a top center, another 1st line winger , a complete 3rd line, better 4th line players, top pairing d-man, 2 bottom pairing d-man and a younger goalie would be nice. They are missing a competent ownership that realises a rebuild is necessary, they are missing a competent GM, and they are missing a president that does not meddle.
Other than that they are fine.

disagree, I think 3rd and 4th lines are the only ones trying anymore. I'm completely happy with what the line of McGratton, Jackman and Begin bring. The only play like 4 or 5 minutes but those are the most exciting 4 or 5 minutes in the game usually.
