So glad to see Saga mentioned by a few posters. I think they are an unrated band (they're playing at the Grey Eagle later this year for anyone interested) and "Worlds Apart" is a brilliant album from start to finish, especially on vinyl.
One of my favourite Canadian songs is Loreena McKennitt's "The Mummers' Dance". The Celtic, earthy vibe of it speaks to the essence of Canada. It's hard for me to describe it.

I see Gandharvas - Downtime was finally mentioned. Not the best Canadian song but it's a song that I've always liked. Such a different arrangement and yet it works.
Also, how about The Philosopher Kings - Stepped on my Life or Go West - King of Wishful Thinking.

Even more obnoxious to have Drake at 10 and Stan Rogers three spots back of him. At that point you're just trolling. I mean, #### right off with that nonsense.

How much research went into this list? Drake had 81 writing partners on his last album, which doesnt include the rumoured ghostwriters. Shania had one co-writing credit on her first album, and Im pretty sure her husband was doing 98% of the work on her subsequent albums.

Yeah, forget the ranking, the justification for Drake is just so half-assed. You read the other justifications, and you see people (often other musicians) reaching into their own soul to say why this music is so important to them. That the best they can come up with is 'Like, "Hotline Bling" is, "You used to call me on my cell phone," but the way he does it ... captures people’s attention.' The blurp is about why he's famous, not how his words reached that person.
A few glaring omissions from this list, off the top of my head:
Greg Keelor/Jim Cuddy
John Mann/Geoffrey Kelly (Spirit of the West)
Ron Hawkins (Lowest of the Low/solo artist)
Sarah Harmer
Neil Osborne (54-40)
Andy Maize/Josh Finlayson (Skydiggers)
Michael Timmins (Cowboy Junkies)
Travis Good/Dallas Good (The Sadies)
All the guys from Sloan
Martin Tielli/Dave Bidini/Tim Vesely (Rheostatics)
Dallas Green
