Anyone remember these guys? I saw them during my freshman year in Waterloo. Their debut album is solid but sounds pretty dated now. I had such a big crush on Maria Del Mar back then, what with her dimples and thigh high boots and her dominatrix outfits.

^^ She does an awesome wolf howl.

Her throat singing was also featured on a recent July Talk track (another great Canadian band).

She does a cool song with Bjork too. A little too much Bjork though.

It's weird and alarming and comforting and touching. I don't get it but I want it. All the dogs come running over and sit as close as they can when it's playing. They're worried, then attentive. They never stop listening until the howling. Then they book it for the fence.

Some metal action for this thread, definitely a little thinner then other genres but when it hits it hits hard

Kataklysm :

3 Inches of Blood (not their most popular song but definitely very Canadian):

Skullfist (up and coming awesome canadianess with snow included)

Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend (almost forgot somehow to include)

"Lovers In A Dangerous Time" - Bruce Cockburn

If you go to NMC (Studio Bell) there is an interactive display that teaches you how to play this song on the guitar.

Great song. Also has a very Canadian meaning, it's about Newfoundlanders moving to Medicine Hat for work

It shows the current top ten after you vote.
1. The Tragically Hip - Wheat Kings
2. Bryan Adams - Summer Of '69
3. The Tragically Hip - Bobcaygeon
4. The Tragically Hip - Ahead By A Century
5. Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
6. Rush - Tom Sawyer
7. Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah
8. Guess Who - American Woman
9. Corey Hart - Never Surrender
10. Michael Buble - Home
I want to Jihad something from this thread to get Michael Buble out of the top ten.

"Best" Canadian song? Or "most mainstream" Canadian song. Because I think that is a freaking awful list. Wheat Kings? Eeewww.

Thank God someone posted Devin Townsend/SYL. The suggestions from CPers in this thread are all almost universally better than this craptacular list from Sirius. I'd even put Log Drivers Waltz ahead of most of these.

What's wrong with Wheat Kings?

Maybe there was a Sirius jihad from Saskatoon.
