AudioEngine A2's. Simply phenomenal speakers for their size, you would not believe they can produce the sound they do.

These are really well reviewed, know anywhere you could buy these in Calgary?

ETA: nm, audioengineusa.com has some reseller links. The Mac-based stores appear to carry them.

I am super, super happy with them. I was worried the reviews were blowing smoke, but the speakers live up to the hype. I'd like to replace my receiver and 3-way stereo speakers in the basement with some A5's in the near future.

I've been quite happy with these over the years, but they don't make them anymore, so that makes Logitech the winner.

Wow, sclitheroe, thanks for the recommendation. Picked up a pair of these today and they are incredible. I swear they sound better than, and almost as loud as, my mains in my home theater. At about 1/4 the size, if that.

At the same time I kinda hate you cause I never realized how terrible most of my MP3s sound... FLAC sounds outstanding though.

ETA: Holy F***ing S***

Logitech Z-5500. As far as computer speakers go, these pretty much take the cake. They're compatible to mp3 players, computer audio outputs, or more conventional home audio systems, like standalone CD players... lots of input options.

They're very well regarded. Look for as many reviews as you can. They should be available from most audio and/or computer retailers, I'd think.

To give you an idea, here is a pricing comparison - in Canadian dollars - from a number of Canadian e-tailers (first link), followed by another reputable Canadian e-tailer (second link):

I got these. I would get them for sure.
