Done deal apparently. Just waiting for the release of the numbers.

But really, the defense is much better under Mourinho than under van Gaal, so I don't think GK is that huge of a priority as it would have been a year or two ago. Oblak would surely be too expensive. There's a couple solid German goalies available (Leno, Horn) that would probably be quite good. United apparently likes Pickford a lot, and I'd be fine with that as well.

But again, if Donnarumma was available ...
Agreed, and Buffon is ageless. 2/3 more years in him?

Juve will need to replace him eventually, and its sure convenient that the next Italian young wonderkeeper, is blossoming at the right time.

I too like the two Germans, and even the junior Schmeichel -- although father & son both tarnished themselves playing for Chitty.

Buffon might outlast all of us. Is he a more famous/better looking Lundqvist?

Your link must have been updated. Now agrees with MEN which suggests Mid May, with Mata possibly now on to be back sometime similar.

Also Pogba estimated to be back for EL next week.

No argument with the Fellaini red card yesterday but consistency?

100k a week for Lovren!

5th highest paid defended in the league!

And Klopp with some fascinating justification for the price.

Quote:
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits Dejan Lovren's performance against Crystal Palace may have had fans calling for the defender to be sold but it had no bearing on his decision to secure him on a long-term contract.
The Croatia international has signed a new deal worth £100,000-a-week, which takes him up to 2021 with an option for a further 12 months, as Klopp plans for the future with the often-maligned centre-back.
Only 12 months ago Lovren was the hero as he scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner against Borussia Dortmund to put Liverpool into the semi-finals of the Europa League, arguably the high point of what has been an up-and-down three years at the club.

Conversely, a faltering performance against Palace where he was dominated by former Liverpool team-mate Christian Benteke, who scored both goals in Sunday's 2-1 win, was one of numerous low points.
Klopp, however, sees things with a more level head.
'In a situation like this I know how football supporters think: if you had asked them after the Dortmund game they would have said "Give him a 20-year contract",' said the Reds boss.

'When you see the Crystal Palace game they think "Can we find another team who could have him?".
'The truth is in between. In a situation like this you have to look outside.
'If Dejan played for another club you'd think about signing him and then you think what you'd have to pay for him and it would be a big number of money.

'Giving him a new contract, working with him, he is 27 years old - the best time for a centre-half is still to come.
'I don't know a lot about it but I heard he had a difficult start at Liverpool but he has really settled so that's really good.
'He is physically strong, quick and a good footballer. Sometimes decision-making could be better but no-one out there - and we watch a lot - is perfect.
'We really think he can help us a lot and we can help him in these few decisive parts of his game and that is what we want to do.
'I am so happy about the news.'
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...-contract.html

This one is going to come back to bite him.

to be fair, "player X telling team Y to negotiate with team Z because he wants to go there" is hardly a done deal

I'm sure he wants to go. But it'll take an extraordinary offer by Real, that's for sure. He has a contract until 2020 and there's no release clause ... United hold all the cards here. Pay up or go pound sand.

If he wants to go, he'll go. How often do clubs end up on the winning side when they try to hold onto players?

The article mentions James & Morata as possible, returnees. Morata unlikely, but I'd love to scoop Rodrigues.

Devo, you bring up a great point, about Mourinho's defense focus.

And, I don't recall too many, out-of-this-world, game-saving, saves from de Gea, this season vs seasons previous.

James would be a nightmare ... so overrated. All I want from Madrid is hard cash. Those swap deals never work.

My kind of summer would be:

OUT: De Gea, Carrick, Rooney, Fellaini, Smalling
IN: Donnarumma, Keane, Dier, Fabinho, Griezmann

Donnarumma/Romero

Valencia/Darmian --- Bailly/Keane --- Rojo/Jones/Fosu-M. --- Shaw/Blind

Herrera/Pereira --- Fabinho/Dier --- Pogba/Mata

Mkhitaryan/Lingard --- Griezmann/Rashford --- Martial/Young

please and thank you.

i like it all, but Pereira over Carrick. I don't see it in him, and Granada has been utilizing him on the wing. I keep Carrick one more season.

I'd be happy with Bakayoko or Fabinho.

you're right, it's not perfect. Pereira can play a number of positions though (#8, #10, both wings), so as long as Fellainis minutes go to him, I'm happy either way.

I think Carrick is going to retire, but if he doesn't, I'd take him for another year of course.

no idea, but it's made the paper rounds lately and several "experts" think there's a chance. Dier apparently wants to play in midfield, which he could do at United. I think it's a stretch and chances are very slim, but it'd make a lot of sense for United.

Here's a question, just for conversation.

Mata over Rooney?
Why?

Poch has said they won't sell anybody they don't want too

Dier as a 3rd CB plays the same position on the field, as he did when he was playing DM. He's the ball playing CB and never went up much when he was in midfield anyway. It's paper talk nothing more

Also then goes United should be after isn'the man who should be England's number one Ben Foster, Pickford would be solid as well

I think it's close but in rooney a favour due to being able to defend some.
In the end though he's such a distraction, with wages, being English, captaincy...

It's time

From what I remember, Fosters exit from United 5 years ago, wasnt amicable.

Sunderland officially relegated. Moyes will struggle to find another job after three straight failures.

Meanwhile Leicester and Bournemouth are safe after today. As ####ty as Ranieris dismissal was - it surely saved them. Glad to see Howe stay up again, he's done some outstanding work with Bournemouth.

From what I remember he wasn't very good. A lot of mistakes. To the point that he cost United games.

I would like to see Periera given a decent shake next year. Regular games. Simple fact is he is an unknown in the PL but a potentially high upside. Not always necessary to be running around with a chequebook to fill slots and then try and justify the price/wages by playing every week. I'd also keep Smalling. Jones? So disappointed in him. Thought he would become a great but I've never seen anyone that can injure himself and his teammates so much. Unreliable on different levels.
