Well, to be fair, it would be silly for Burke to hire someone who opposes his thought process and direction.

Hmmmmm, no Burke stating defiantly that he knows a little something about winning in case anyone is concerned. Unlike the clown show up north.

Maybe not. I love this quote from Sports Night

thank god he wasn't defiant =P
Looking at Treliving's resume, I'm excited about this hire. Time for someone with both business acumen and some hockey experience to drive the long term strategy for the team.

Detroit has been operating with unlimited funds for 25 years or so, Phoenix not so much.

Great presser and I'm excited to have him on board. I love how they made mention of how PHX has a tight budget, so you have to get it right the first time. I think that's what excites me the most. Sutter and Feaster had cash to burn, but Brad comes from a background where money was tight and you have to be creative to make it work. He doesn't seem like a guy who will toss money at a problem to try and fix it.
He also has a sweet nickname. Tree. Awesome.

Both Detroit and Phoenix are both well managed. As are Boston and San Jose. Detroit has had more success historically and it could be for any number of reasons. That doesn't remove the fact that the management in Phoenix does a fantastic job with what little they have.

Yeah, I liked that he drove home the point that you can have all the money in the world, but no matter what, you still need to make wise decisions. Being in Phoenix made it so there was little room for error, but either way you still need to get it right.
It really does sound like he had more clout in Phoenix than an average assistant GM.

The warm and fuzzy feeling surrounding this franchise right now is quite remarkable considering where we were a little over a year ago. Even more remarkable considering we are picking fourth at the draft. Not to mention it is legitimate excitement, not "First overall draft party" excitement.

Burke says he went around asking about young guys who were ready to be GMs. Says Treliving was on about everyone's list and in some cases the top of the list.
Burke saying that pretty much 3rd party validation allowed him to only interview Treliving.

how Burke sees the organizational structure will work
first off wants to point out that is not new
going to be an older guy guiding the younger guy to help avoid a lot of mistakes
Treliving is going to have a lot of autonomy
rational discussion should avoid a veto situation
going to be collaboration and cooperation
AGM will be Treliving's hire
they skipped the queue in hiring Treliving, sure there would be other teams after Brad if they had waited

Treliving now on the Fan 960
said after Portland got eliminated from playoff contention, Don Maloney told Treliving that Burke had called
Don setup a timeline for a deal to be finalized
went up to Calgary for an interview
deal finalized yesterday
Why the Flames are a good fit:
a lot of it is the people
is a western conference guy
doesn't know the team intimately, but knows where they are strong and where they need work
on the same page as Burke
Flames just felt right
Two things he wants to get on right away:
wants to set a culture of work over the summer for the kids in Abbotsford and ingrain them the next 90 days before training camp is very important
meeting the scouts for the draft
