Burke expected Phoenix wouldn't let Treliving interview until after the draft. However they did and they gave them a short time period to sign him.

Getting permission from the Phoenix owners probably didn't hurt that the owners are from Calgary.
I like this hire, he's a hockey man who's built his resume from the ground up and as he's said, he decided to cut his own path distinct from his father.

Burke says the Coyotes gave the Flames a window of 10 days to sign Treliving
confirms there is no restriction by the Coyotes on Treliving at the draft
Burke says Treliving has full autonomy at the draft
