Aww, my second earthquake and I slept through it? Damn.
Still. The most shocking part of this for me is that 660 news called it "the biggest quake to hit Montana in a decade." I didn't think Montana really got earthquakes at all, let alone enough that 6.0s are a decennial event.
Was still up but did not feel anything in NW Calgary.
the USGS has a good page on this one. Highlights: it's not related to Yellowstone (!!) and there have been 16 magnitude 5 or higher quakes in the region in the past century so it's not uncommon.
I just laid down in bed a few minutes beforehand and then the bed started moving side to side ever so gently. I thought it was strange and couldn't figure out what that could be.
My bed was also rocking.

Felt it in south Calgary. I had just laid down in bed and got this weird sensation of movement, almost like I was on a waterbed. (which I wasn't) At first I thought that my wife, who was asleep, was having a dream and shaking the bed but then I realized she hadn't moved and I just dismissed it as being overtired but it was pretty weird. Never even thought it could be an earthquake until I read about it this morning.

I thought animals were supposed to sense earthquakes before they happened? I also noticed that my cat did nothing unusual before, during, or after.
Maybe the animals just want us to be unprepared.
My dog probably slept through the earthquake and figured that as long as the bed was still there she was cool. It probably was an aftershock and she wanted to know what I was going to do about the shaking disturbing her bed time.

First thing that comes to mind every time I hear about an earthquake...lol

I'm sure I felt it, although I was a little gassy, and I'm not even kidding.
I was in Helena last night for that shaker. I'd never experienced an earthquake that strong before. Was sleeping when the first one went off. I woke up totally confused as to wtf was going on. At first I thought it was a tornado outside the house. The house felt like it was moving from side to side. I got out of bed and felt a bit disoriented. Took a look out the window and the weather looked normal. After a couple minutes I started to second guess if I had just had a crazy dream maybe. Then it rumbled again for a second time. Not as nuts as the first one. You can hear the sound before you feel it. Eerie af. Felt another couple aftershocks but nowhere near as strong.
Whoa yeah I was downtown in the Eau Claire area and I felt the building shifting. It was nothing I've ever experienced before. It was super obvious. At first I thought it was just wind but the window rattled and I heard creaking in the structure of the elevator bay in the hall! I immediately put on some street clothes in case I needed to make a hasty exit!
I also noticed some burst pipes in a downtown parkade today. Not sure if related.
Only a couple months ago I laughed at my insurance broker when she offered me earthquake insurance on my new place in Kelowna. Did I make a terrible mistake? Haha.
