I'm wondering if he actually wanted to be Captain and is pissed at how things shook out? Never know. I know he made a statement about Backlund deserving it after it was announced but what else is he going to say?

I agree he needs a boost. But who is going to Team Canada that’s great? Their top line a couple years ago featured Mangiapane.

Really happy hearing Huska's comments regarding Pospisil. It's clear they're very high on the kid, the pace he practices and plays at and how they see a lot more in him than some bottom 6 grinder.

This year so far, I've heard that Mercer and McCann will be there and that Sid is also considering it.

I think that's moreso because Miromanov has limited, if any trade value, whereas Kuzmenko is a great example of a quick pump and dump.

Yikes. Just watched the Markstrom presser. Super cringe and pretty clear he's done with the Flames. Really unfortunate how it all turned out and to me it would seem, that things ended so poorly between him and the management. He's a hell of a competitor and a great pro.

Catching up on the interviews and the media discussion and I’m so tired of:
1. Reporters constantly begging the players to say something nice about Calgary.
2. Reporters saying ‘well he didn’t say he wants to be here’ and twisting themselves into pretzels about how they wish the player said he wants to be here, only to follow up and say Tkachuk said he wanted to be here yet left. Pointless circle complete.
Please just stop.

They have an extra year on Miromanov and he's also two years younger. He's also a defenceman, and they generally take longer.

The Flames messed up handling the situation. A leak got out that never should've and then they left Markstrom on an island to deal with the rumors himself the next days and weeks.

For better or worse, Flames basically have mouth peices in local media. And not relevant enough for national media to do much more then very basic analysis. Francis is the same, sometimes says something idoitic more then anything of negative analysis. Same with Valji, causing drama is different then some proper analysis.
Flames PR is tied closely with them. Clear the message asked to get sent out after today is that even though the season results were a lot worse than last year, things are "better". With the thought that everyone is happy, as opposed to last year, but ignoring the warts.
Obvious the Flames website highlights Kadri and Weeger and anyone who is happy to stay. Markstrom doesn't get much of a mention. Nor does Huberdeau. Fine for the Flames website, but no one in the press wants to step up and analyze some of the issues?
Besides the exodus of players (and the Flames really didn't expect all to want out, either) there were players that had bad seasons, but will any press mention any of that? Huberdeau obviously.Mangipane. Vladar. Dube, long before he went on leave. Backlund, coming back only because he was made captain, that Sutter didn't grant him, had a terrible last 22 or so games, with 5 points and a team worst plus minus (-16 that period). But Kelly was proud of him, so I guess it's ok?
They need a new building and to win to attract players. In the meantime, they need to overpay to get some players to make the thought of playoffs next year, workable. They lose Markstrom they have a tougher road to that. There are challenges, and the organization really does not, and there is no need to sugar coat it or avoid talking about the fact that the existing players have to do more.

I'm not so sure with giving up 35 high danger chances or whatever it was when McDavid was on the ice.
The only guy I really can't say I'm not still pissed off with when I think of that series is Tanev. The guy really shouldn't have been playing but he's a warrior.

I become a tad bitter towards hockey media in general. It's unfortunate that click bait is a sign of the times and what's worse is it's lost its overall fun outlook. A lot of fear mongering and whataboutism.
It's one thing when us nerd fans spin round and round endlessly but it's another when you're trying to sell the franchise to the genpop.
Like why not spin focus towards the future instead of digging on the Markstrom story. Or creating the very toxic space you're fear mongering about players wanting to leave.
You keep asking them why would they want to stay they'll eventually want to leave because the media instantly keeps prodding.
There has to be a better way.
I just kind of miss pre internet hockey reporting. It wasn't available 24/7 and news bombshells felt more organic. Instead of manufactured or even manifested.

You were able to assess the man's coaching ability from a 10 minute, end of season, media spot?
You've been against him all year, maybe you were listening for what you wanted to hear?

And he's also going to be significantly cheaper to re-sign.
