I would prefer to stay with rogers. They've been pretty decent thus far. Unfortunately where I spend half or more of the month, a rogers tower does not exist.

Take the screen off of auto and simply set it to a lower setting and leave it there. Auto really drains a lot of battery.
I have the Samsung Captivate and love it so +1 for the Galaxy S Captivate.
Someone mentioned as well if they were the only one that liked Rogers...nope, I've been with them for years after having Telus and Bell and I love Rogers. Great customer service, excellent upgrades, no issues at all for me with them.

I'm a happy Rogers customer as well. They have bent over backwards to get me a manageable bill. My only complaint is their network coverage in rural areas in Alberta and BC. If you stay in major centres most of the time then it is no big deal. But I spend a lot of time in Ucluelet BC and Princeton BC, both places that don't have 3G coverage on Rogers (but do on Telus).

Love Rogers (as much as one can love a company like that). I've dealt with Telus and Bell in the past and haven't been burned by Rogers nearly as much.

That would be great if I was able to see the screen during the day while outside.

Love is a very strong word to use for a telecom company; but I too have been very happy with Rogers. Light years better than Telus.

Tech newb question here.
So this allows you to use your cellphone data plan with your laptop or ipad, correct?
Basically eliminating the need to get say a 3G ipad; if your smartphone is with you all the time anyway?

Yes, assuming you have the tethering option on your plan.

Rogers has been pretty good to me over the past 10 years or so that I've been a customer. I just got my first hardware upgrade in 6 years with the iPhone 4 and they gave me a $300 credit for some reason so I didn't pay a bill between October and February.

That's an option in the plan? I assumed it was just an option on the phone...

For Rogers I believe it's a free option on data plans 1GB and over.

For wireless hotspot on Android you don't require a tethering option. Its just part of your regular data plan, they can't differentiate between broadcasting to another device and use on your device.

As mentioned any plan over 1Gb has it included. It was always funny how people I work with would see me teathered to my laptop, and say... "Oooooh, you must have jail broke your phone to do that." I would open their setting, and show them the switch to turn it on.
So many people did not realize it was available, or included in their plans. The only computer device that has not been able to tether since 3Gs is the iPad, and that is not Rogers, it was Apple for the obvious reasons. Thankfully they came to their senses and realized hotspot would actually increase the sale of their devices, not decrease them.
