Default PL extended 2 years as Philly's head coach

Peter has been close with the Philly a few times already, couple of 47 win seasons back-to-back and knows what it takes to win. Great extension by Philly here, they're one significant piece away from the finals IMO.

No matter what your opinion of Bouwmeester is, he might be the furthest possible thing from a relacement for Pronger.

I fully agree. Bouwmeester isn't even in the same realm as Pronger from style of play all the way to quality of player. I don't even think Philly is interested in Bouw to be honest.

How does a thread about the Fylers re-signing their coach turn into a Bouwmeester thread?

Agreed, I just don't think Bouwmeester is what they need. Should've kept Carle.

IIRC, it was Carle who wanted out, for whatever reason.

I wonder what is going to happen with Pronger. It sucks that one of the best shut-down defensemen over the last 10 years is nearing the end of his career because of a concussion. A part of my would love if he could overcome it and come back strong and help the Flyers in the playoffs.

I dont think so. I think the Flyers throwing the kind of money they did at Weber shows that Pronger is pretty much unofficially retired. If he was to comeback I dont think it would be for a few years. I agree it would be good to see. I wonder if they put the C on Giroux. I would probably go with Timonen or Briere (if they plan on keeping him around)

It's Giroux's team now.

Great re-signing; I always wonder why the Flames never made Laviolette their top priority post-Keenan, he would've been wonderful for that team as it was constructed.

Philly could use Bouwmeester though as they failed to land Weber or Suter, Carle signed elsewhere and Pronger is practically done. Bouwmeester is nowhere near as good as Pronger, but his minutes will definitely help alleviate the work load for their bottom 4 guys.

Say what you want but a Coburn - Bouwmeester pairing would be great for them

I would be shocked if Pronger stepped on the ice for an NHL team again...save a old timers game in 20 years.
