You do know we are talking about AHL not NHL play, correct?
A 30 point pace (over 82 game season) in the AHL would be pretty disappointing.

I disagree, I would be impressed if he did that.

So you'd be impressed with 18 points in 50 AHL games?

Yeah, I don't really have much in the way of expectations for this kid. If he approaches .5 ppg in his first pro season, I'd be impressed.

I'll be impressed if he can beat out a veteran for a roster spot at camp quite frankly.
He's in tough competition against established vets at centre and some potentially more nhl ready wingers of the youngster variety.

That is completely different from being indescribably shocked if he produces at a pace he's already exceeded.
Is it possible he's unable to reproduce that pace over an entire season? Yes.
Is it possible he's able to reproduce that pace over an entire season? Yes.
Is it possible he's able to produce 80% of that pace over an entire season? Yes and it should not be a shock.

Gaudreau always succeeded at every level at putting up points. Jankowski seems to be earning trust at every level and being that guy you throw out in all important situations at all different times of the game. He is good on face-offs as well (though I expect a learning curve at the NHL level for sure), but I think it helps out the center knowing he can be a bit more aggressive on the dot, and if he gets waived out, Jankowski can come in and take it.
This is how I see the current lineup.
Gaudreau - Monahan - X
Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer
Ferland - Backlund - Frolik
Bouma - Stajan - Chiasson
Bollig
One spot open, maybe two if Tkachuk gets sent back down to the OHL - maybe more if injuries happen. Jankowski will probably be sent to the AHL to start, but considering he already has Huska's trust and did admirably to start (which does in no way guarantee it continues), I feel he would be a likely 'early call-up' candidate.
Vey, Pollock, Poirier, Shinkaruk, Pribyl, Hathaway, Hamilton - those are what I would call the short-list for guys getting some time up. Jankowski is the only center, and MAY have the best defensive game at the moment. Wouldn't shock me to see him stick right out of camp - especially if injuries happen (knock on wood), but I would be shocked if he didn't get some games in starting halfway through the season.
Pribyl gets my vote for who is a likely starter on that top line, but I expect that top-line to be a revolving door for a while (assuming Brouwer sticks with Bennett, and the Flames feel they don't need a guy protecting Gaudreau) just like last season.
AHL I expect him to be above 0.5ppg - I expect him to be the top-line center in Stockton - and he gets to play with good talent. Whether it is in the NHL or the AHL, I can't wait to see him play with guys that can make use of his vision and playmaking. Some of the guys in Providence were a bit underrated, but he didn't have any wingers at the level that Pribyl, Shinkaruk, and Poirier are at, or probably even Klimchuk who I expect to shine this season.

IIRC the AHL equivalency to college hockey is 0.52, so about 36 points in 70 games played.

Why would you use an 82 game pace when they only play 68? That doesn't make much sense

The last couple games last season, Stajan played wing and actually looked ok.
My wish is that by Christmas Stajan is back on the wing and Janko is our #4 center.
And he'll be comfortable enough to be our #3 center when we can't afford Backs in two seasons .

Because that's the common lingo people use to discuss prospects and their potential production levels. Like when players are projected to become 40 goal scorers etc.

It's not optimal but all the other lines work really well and there's not many other options for that spot. It's a shame Porier has fallen off the map.

Players that are 21 sometimes get better over time.

I'd take Shinkaruk on the first line, as a bit piece with a chance to contribute, over Ferland on the second line.

I wouldn't mind Langkow numbers out of him one bit. I hope he has Langkow smarts and instincts.
That combination with his raw stature and skill could make him a star.
