[QUOTE=Dion;5407218]I drive a 2006 Ford Escape that I bought used. It has 147,000 kms on it and other than brakes, tires, and regular fluid changes there has been no problems. I do my best to take care of the vehicles I own and tend to put close 300,000 kms on them.

I research every vehicle I buy to see how reliable the tranny and engine for any particular model i'm interested in. It's a depreciating asset and if i'm going to drive it at least 10 years i want to minimise any major repair costs.

My Escape

Yah I had a 2008 ford excape with 125,000 on it that has been written off.

Mine was the same. Other than brakes, tires, and regular changes I had no issues at all.

Ahhhh! Did you have to quote that giant picture so it is the lead on the new page? Might not be a problem on mobile, but it expands browser width to the max on Firefox...

Yeah, I like the picture but it would be nice if posters wrapped these pictures in spoiler tags because the page becomes pretty much unreadable.

Spoiler!

IIRC there is something in the sites programming that auto resizes pictures to prevent the above.

Another thumbs up for the Grand Cherokee. We have a 2012 and it has been fantastic.

Our is the humble v6 version which has decent power. I can't even fathom the SRT.

Will your insurance company not consider a cash settlement? Then you get the cash, keep your low mileage car and drive it into the ground. You just can't carry collision insurance on it after it's been written off due to hail. But if it's mechanically sound why not keep driving it?

As a Business owner I'm able to write off my monthly lease payment, which i make as large as possible to lower the price of the buyout at the end of my lease. Leasing or Paying cash is the way too go

Best ever Purchase was a used 2011 Honda CRV(bought in 2013) for my Mother/Father, You sit up high like a truck in it, and its literally needed nothing but regular service despite being driven thru snow, by someone who thinks their a F1 Driver.

Its underpowered, and a Grandma Car but a CRV is the safest bet out there

I would avoid the Rogue; nice-looking, but my Mazda 3 has more oomph.

I drive a 2004 Cavalier with 282,000 km on it that I bought for $5,300 in 2008. I am thinking it's time to upgrade to an adult vehicle soon. Probably this winter.

I've been looking at the Highlander, Tiguan, Murano, Rogue, CX-5, CX-7.

I'll probably buy used - in the 2009-2012 range. Any advice?

I like the Highlander and the Murano in that list. The Highlander is a pretty big vehicle though, it is the highest rated mid size SUV by consumer reports and is solid mechanically. The Murano is also a solid pick.

This thread does not need enormous pics of an Escape. Put some spoilers on that damn sh*t.

Ha sorry guys. The pic is blocked at work so I never got to see it

Just wanna say I went ahead and bought a 2015 Ford Edge Sport. I really liked it and am excited. Tested a few of the other ones suggested and really enjoyed some of them too. It was a tough decision! I hate car buying. I also hate spending money. But it was a good experience overall.

Thanks a lot everyone, nice to have a variety of opinions.

The Edge Sport has a wicked 2.7 turbo V6 engine, 315hp. Good choice, the engine alone will be worth the money.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a slightly-used 2014 Ford Edge Sport (only about 20k on it). I want it because it's quite the sexy looking vehicle, and I've always wanted one. Now that I'm single again, it's the perfect time to get it too! It's being sold in the high 30's; what should I try and knock it down to price-wise? The 2016's are coming out this month (I think), and I recently saw an ad in July that had the new 2015 models at 39k (10k off the regular price).

Why not go for the 2015 model and see if you can get some extras thrown in, like winter tires, and maybe a bit more price drop?

I thought about that, but the 2014 model is a much nicer design, IMO. The 2015's have some window details on the back that I just can't get onboard with (as picky as that sounds).

I thought only undeservedly well paid oil and gas employees could afford brand new SUVs. Huh.

I'm curious where you saw the 2015 edge sport for 39k. The base model is 45k and they don't really have any out in Alberta that are base models.

I looked at a bunch of 2014 edge sports around town here and almost all of them were rental cars that got miled out as an FYI.
