Default In Ground Basketball Net

Anyone have any experience/tips purchasing and installing an in ground basketball net?

Prices range from $300 to $3000 online. Looking to see if someone can vouch for one or tell me avoid one.

Thanks in advance.

I've done it. I bought it 2nd hand for a case of beer. The beer was for delivery.

I'm glad that I went with in ground. It works great. Unfortunately the one I got is fixed height so I can't lower it for the kids but they're learning just fine.

My dad and I installed it and we didn't look up any YouTube video we just decided our own method. Make sure you keep the pole leveled. The slighest amount off and the pole will look like it is really leaning. We bought a tonne of rope to keep the pole in place and prevent it from leaning while we were pouring cement.

Also make sure you measure correctly so you buy enough cement. I thought I may have one too many bags but had to quickly go buy one more bag.

Overall the finished product looks great.

Most importantly, call before you dig!

My wife had a friend who's husband put something similar in their back yard, and put hockey boards on one end and lip around the edge. Result? Sweet basketball court for him and his kids during the warm days, and a 1/2 hockey rink during winter. I definitely had house envy that day.

What does a $3000 hoop get you?

Out of curiosity, is it better to use quick set cement for the post, or the regular stuff?

Use one of the expanding foam brands instead (Sika, Fast2k). They're approved for in ground basketball nets and you won't wrench your back hauling and mixing concrete like we're still back in the stone age.

That stuff worked great for my chain link fence posts, but I'm not sure how confident I would be given the weight of a basketball post and net. But might be worth a shot, it is so much easier than concrete.

I think it was $15. I was able to do 2 posts per bag.

edit:
$17.99

^ wow, that seems very reasonable. I would think a bag of quickset must be around $8 - then the mixing and the poring.

Ya, I mean it is more expensive for sure, probably twice as much. I was only doing 6 posts and it was very cramped conditions so getting a wheelbarrow in would have sucked. Put I'd probably do it again given the cost due to the speed, and not having to haul bags of concrete around.
