Alcohol prices in Florida
I'm currently vacationing in Florida and decided to stop into a liquor store. (Keep in mind, beer and wine are sold in grocery stores here, only hard liquor is not.)
I chose a rather ubiqutous brand to do a comparison.
Smirnoff Vodka (40% alc/vol) is approx $20 in Calgary for the 750ml bottle. On the Gulf Coast of Florida, for $20, you can get a 1.75L bottle of the exact same vodka.
In addition, most of the coolers, mixes and beer were also half the price.
I had heard rumors of cheaper booze in the States, but had to see it to believe it.
I think a lot of people are taken in by the myth that alcohol is hard to produce and ship, thus it is a luxury item. Clearly Albertans are paying up the ying yang for their booze.

It's not even funny when I go down to Palm Springs.
It's like they're giving it away for free.
I got a .26 of C-Mos for $12! And the best part - I bought it at the Pharmacy. Haha. Only in America.

Where are you exactly? Naples, St Pete..? Just curious, have to check the price to see if it's different here. Gas is a lot more expensive in Palm Bch Cty than anywhere else, so who knows. Hope your weather is as beautiful today as ours is. Wow.

Florida is unbelievable for liquor prices. I remember walking into a liquor store in Destin and was in heaven when I saw the prices.

In other news: Lance Bass is gay!
What's funny is that Alberta pays less than other provinces where liquor stores are government run. I used to work at a liquor store and people from B.C. would come in and marvel at the low prices of alcohol in Alberta.

Yeah, I think our system might be flawed slightly.

We're a bunch of cheap drunks . Give us a bigger Sin Tax! I don't want to pay for someone else's liver, since I barely drink myself.

It's ridiculous.
I walked into a Von's (Safeway) in San Diego and paid $12 for a 26 oz of some bizarre Canadian whiskey that turned out to be pretty good AND a dozen cans of Coke Zero.
Insane. It is definitely a lot easier to be an alcoholic down there!

Florida is considered expensive compared to North Carolina.
I purchased a 40 oz bottle of Burnetts Pomegranite vodka just yesterday for the blond...it was 14.95. I dont like a whole lot of dark liquors myself, but i know you can get bourban and rye for real cheap..depending on brand etc.
The whole list...

The best was in Texas, bucket of 6 Dos Equis Amber for 9 bucks at BBQ places. I saw at Jack Astors the other day a bucket of 5 Corona (aka bat urine) for 27 bucks, but you get to keep the bucket! LOL.
Last time I was in the US, i brought back a bottle of Bombay Sapphire 18.99 for 750ml

Oh yeah...but varies from State to State as to how much.
Cigarettes in NY are as expensive as Canada now.....but when you get down into tobacco growing states they are half the price.

Nothing compares to the trip I just went on to Israel. I got a 1.5L bottle of Finlandia for 25 Shekals, or roughly 6$.

On July 1st state tax on cigs went up $1.00 so now Carolina and Gerorgia are averaging $1.25 cheaper per pack than Fl.
Also 12 weeks prior to that the Federal tax per pack went from 34 to $1.01 or $1.09, I forget.

This got me wondering about the most expensive liquors in the world...
YIKES!!
2 million dollar cognac anyone?
Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne
This cognac comes in a crystal bottle dipped in 24K yellow gold and sterling platinum (four kilograms of precious metal) and decorated with 6,500 certified brilliant-cut diamonds, master-crafted by the well-known jeweler, Jose Davalos. Inside is 100 cl. of Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne that has been aged in barrels for more than one hundred years to produce an alcohol content of 41 percent.
Insane.
And some more...

On the other side of the coin, Americans pay ridiculous prices for Propane.
