I've used Aspen Tree Service twice.
Once to cut trees and once to prune after a branch fell on my neighbors power line!
No complaints from me.
That said, my friend contacted them and said they were rude on the phone.
As for me. The previous owner left my front yard as a "native vegetation" garden. No idea if it was ever "nice" since I bought in the winter. That said it's quite overgrown and full of weeds. So far, I'm leaning towards getting someone to raze the whole thing and sod/seed it back.
Roughly 7m x 7m.

Heading to home depot to pick up some fertilizer for my lawn. I was just going to pick up some Scotts turf builder 30-0-3, unless you people in the know think something else is better?

Man, if you fertilize it, it is just going to grow and you will have to cut it. Sounds like a make work project.

Yup - that's the one I use. I think they call it 'lawn food' now; not sure why it changed.

The new hotness that they're all pushing is their new lines with iron for a deeper green (GreenMax, Green Explosion, etc). TurfBuilder/Lawn food, etc, is now their "basic" lineup.

It's a new NDP program to cut carbon emissions. They fertilize your lawn and take away your gas powered mower and replace it with a reel mower.

I'll give you my gas powered mower when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

How long does a lawn take to fully absorb fertilizer?
I fertilized mine last night and was planning on mowing on the weekend, but I'm thinking I might end up pulling most of it into the mower if it has not been absorbed.

Maybe wait until Sunday to be sure, but I would water it tomorrow morning to make sure it gets dissolved/absorbed properly, evenly. We always do that and it works great. Especially before we mow after fertilizing.

Thanks. I ran the sprinklers this morning and will run them again on Sunday morning.

Depends on the fertilizer. It really just needs to get below the canopy
In an ideal world mowing is frequent enough that you shouldn't even be collecting clippings which helps recycle a bunch of hose nutrients from the plant anyway. Or at least the first cut after a fertilizer app if you're worried about sucking it up.

I've fertilized, thatched by hand and overseeded with several different types of seed. Nothing will grow except some scruffy grass and thistle when I let it grow up.
The plugs that are coming up with the aerator are just powder. Bad soil maybe?

Do you have big trees in that area? Root systems of mature trees suck up a lot of moisture from the soil.

No, it's relatively new build. Honestly, the best grass is underneath the cherry tree I have in the front (east) yard.
The dirt is very fine, mostly silt I think, there is nothing to hold the moisture.
The worst parts are right around the foundation, especially in the front. The soil is so loose and it's literally just powder.
I'm probably going to make a flower bed there, but that's a problem because it will be fully shaded by the tree.

Sunnyside Greenhouses turns 100 but closes...

I'm deeply saddened by this, but at the same time I admit we've gone to closer and more convenient other places in recent times for plants and gardening equipment.
