I haven't been this bummed at a musician passing since Dimebag Darrel, heard it on the radio on my drive to work and just ruined my morning. Soundgarden was a staple of my early teen years, one of the best voices in rock history. I'll leave with his Bond theme, one of the best of the entire series
The family's statement saying "sudden and unexpected" makes me think they had no reason to suspect a suicide. How much worse for them I think if it turns out to be true and they really had no idea or didn't suspect that was even a possibility.
Unfortunately that is often the case with suicide. We don't see the signs except in hindsight.

Brutal, one of my favourites. I saw him in an acoustic set a few years back, his talent is just incredible. He did a cover of Led Zeppelin's Thank You, man it was such an experience.
I always had a far out pipe dream one day I would get to see him and Eddie sing Hunger Strike live..
There are few videos that have stuck with me from my childhood but Black Hole Sun was definitely at the top.
I'm with you there...absolutely sick that I had to pass up going to see them last fall.
This one hurts - opens up old Layne Staley wounds for me too...just hard to process the 'why' when such influential people in your life are gone way too soon.

Well the trifecta is complete. My favorite three bands of the grunge era (Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana) have now all lost their lead singers forever. I have a buddie that swears it's something to do with the Seattle weather and how it brings out the best and worst in creativity and depression.
Damn this kicked me in the gut this morning. Superunknown was one of the first albums I had as a kid, and Audioslave dominated my formative years. I Am the Highway still resonates.

Lemmy for me ... that one really hurt. Cornell comes close to that, although I've never been too enarmored with Soundgarden. But Audioslave was simply outstanding.
Soundgarden's first 3 albums were incredible. I sort of lost interest in them after that, but Chris Cornell was definitely one of the most raw talented individuals from that Seattle grunge scene. It's very sad to see such a great artists and giving person taken so young.
I saw Soundgarden live back in the early 90s and was really impressed that he could hit all the notes with such ease.

First song I ever heard by them. I think it was on the Power Hour or something on MuchMusic back when they just lumped it into heavy metal because it wasn't a 'thing' yet. I thought it was quite different and cool.

I once decided to snowboard from the highest lift at Sunshine down to the parking lot. It's a bit of a trek if you're not stopping. I got about 98% of the way there before my legs went fully numb and I caught my heel edge sending me hard down onto my ass and nearly broke my back.
Audioslave's first album had just come out, I was playing it quite loud in my headphones, and I fully blame it for my near destruction because no music should give a man that much confidence.
