Default Speaker making weird sound when off?

Just yesterday my central speaker for my entertainment centre started making this weird noise when its off. Not really sure how to explain the sound, but it kind of sounds like when your tummy is growling. It's constantly going. I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, but it still makes the sound. Anyone have any ideas on whats wrong? It is maybe 6-8 years old.

This may sound stupid, but are you 100% sure its actually coming from the speaker and not something else near by?

radio interference from the cables? try moving the wires around to see if the sound changes.

I currently have the same problem with my speakers. It started in early July.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from the centre speaker. I've asked everyone in the house and they all hear it coming from it when you put your ear next to it.

I think the dog might have gotten behind there and moved some wires around. When I get home tonight I'll reorganize the cables and see if it makes a difference.

No, they were really good speakers 6 years ago. Cost around $1,000.

What happens when you turn off your cell phone? Does it still make the noise?

Many phones when sending/receiving data cause speakers to do that.

Probably a grounding issue in the power somewhere. Google that and go from there. You can try to plug your system in different outlets to see if the sound goes away.
