This would be assuming that Sakic is incompetent and/or doesn't care about his job. Seriously, how would anyone think that unloading a bunch of mid-range players could net you a bona fide current star player in a trade? I mean, other than Sutter's Phaneuf trade, there has been no evidence of this happening in the past 10 years, is it?

100 percent concur.
Realistically, Avs would try to work a deal around Brodie.
Landeskog and/or Duchesne will not be had for " hopefuls" .

If Calgary were inquiring about Duchene, I would think the Avs would ask for Hamilton or Brodie. Not saying we should do it (I definitely would not do either), but that would be their ask.
Them or Bennett.
Kylington and Jankowski are not getting it done for Duchene or Landeskog.

Would 2 of our defense prospects plus a reasonably high draft pick be enough? There would have to be some consideration for the salary as well. Maybe you throw in Wideman to offset, and then reduce the pick to a later round? I have no idea, but I've always like how Duchene plays.

Don't want Duchene. 2 years away from UFA and would make it really hard to keep our current core together. No way Wideman waives for the Avs

I think it would take something like this:
Landeskog for Janko/Kliminchuk/Poirier + Bouma + Jokipakka + 1st round pick + 2nd round pick

dont think 2 picks would be needed, one or the other ... conditional 1st, if do not make playoffs becomes a second

Avs need D so one of Kylington, Anderson, Hickey, Fox would have to be in the deal. One of them along with one of Jankowski/Porier/Klimchuk/Mangipane a first and a cap dump is closer i think to Landeskog

Always interesting to see when people group Poirier alongside Jankowski.
There's no way those two are equal or even close in terms of prospects at this point.

Avs coiuld use a goalie prospect too. Adding Duchene IMO changes this team dramatically. With Macdonald, Parsons and Gillies maybe we could add 1 of them into the deal
Bouma, Kulak, Kylington, Gillies and 2nd for Duchene

they are usually grouped together because they are the only two you could realistically point to as having value amongst flames forward prospects.
Sort of like how kylington has been incorporated into most of the trade proposals that try to address colorado's need for a young defender.

It's the Kings. They don't have to worry about trivial things like cap space. They'll just create some kind of phantom nonsense that gets them out of Dustin Brown's contract and the NHL will just a-okay it.

Brad: We don't mind taking the under-performing Duchene. We realize we need to make a competitive offer, however. We'll give you offensive juggernaut Dennis Wideman, two blue chip prospects in Brett Kulak and Ryan Culkin, and a 6th round pick to really seal the deal. All we need is your quick signature and we can wrap 'er up today.
Sakic: Done.
Brad: What just happened

Calgary should have an advantage dealing with Colorado since they appear to over value all players with previous experience as a Flame.

Lets not make is sound like teams are clamoring to get their hands on Jankowski either. Most teams have prospects in their organization like him and Poirier. Neither are looked at as elite prospects or building blocks and neither is going to fetch a quality player on their own in a trade.

Why would you think that? I am genuinely interested in your logic here, because you are not the only one thinking that a star player can be had for a combination of "stuff" thrown into a trade. Other than the infamous Phaneuf trade (we all know how well that worked for everyone), can you name one trade in the past 10 years where an established star player was traded for a couple of picks and a bunch of prospects & 3rd/4th-liners?
To get a rising star you need to give away a star. There's no other way.

How about Janko + Kylington + 1st (turns into 2nd if we don't make playoffs)?

Quality for quantity isn't getting one of Colorado's young players.
They be asking for Brodie or Hamilton in a deal IMO.

What's Olli Jokinen up to? Could we sign him and then immediately flip him to the Avs?

What glue are you guys are sniffing if you think we can get Landeskog or Duchene for a potpourri of picks and half-rate prospects.
Hamilton or Brodie are the only conversation starters here.

Thanked for the 1st sentence only.
On the 2nd: Why would you even start that conversation? Flames don't need Matt Duchene right now to begin with. He'd be nice to have if we could pick him up in a fair market UFA bidding process, but that's not in cards. If it means giving up one of our two top young defensemen; we don't have that many to give away, so why bother?
P.S. I think the only logical trade for Duchene is Trouba. Makes sense for both Avs and Jets (although cap hit is big and will need to be dealt with). I am sure there is a discussion going on there somehwere about it...
