That was a tough one. I thought that Spurs deserved a lot better and I really thought with ten men they were going to pull it out. Oh well. It's disappointing for sure, but maybe that means a little more rest for some of the players.
At this point I'm more than a little concerned about next season at Wembley for the whole thing. Hopefully they can get there for the FA Cup though and win a couple more games there this year.
FC Schalke 04
Borussia Mönchengladbach
AS Roma
KRC Genk
Manchester United
RSC Anderlecht
Besiktas Istanbul
FC Copenhagen
FK Krasnodar
Olympiacos
APOEL Limassol
KAA Gent
FK Rostov
Ajax Amsterdam
Olympique Lyon
Celta Vigo
on paper, that looks definitely winable for United ... Roma, Lyon and Gladbach probably the hardest competition, now that Spurs, Zenit and Shakhtar are out. Hoping for a short trip in the next round - either Copenhagen or a Belgian team would do nicely.
^ That technology is so awesome. I don't know how it works, but I wish the NHL could get something similar and end coaches challenges and replays in the process. It's just so great that the ref points at his watch and there is no discussion (although they tried it here!)
did you guys see this crazy goal in Holland over the weekend?
score one for technology!
Honestly...I look at that and when you watch the Goal Line replays it looks like theres no way it crosses the line, but when you watch the initial play at about 6-7 seconds in, not the replays, but when the Keeper instinctively hugs the ball to his chest after the 'save,' I think thats what pulled the ball over the line.
And you can see the initial hesitation from the Ref, but then it goes off.
It crossed the line, so kudos to the machine.

a better look, with commentary
yes it's when the keeper pulls the ball into his stomach to get up at 0:41

I watched the video without reading the rest of the posts and was convinced they must have made a mistake. Poor guy. It wasn't actually in until the play was basically over and then he scored on himself.
The Goal Line Tech was not wrong. The keeper....thats a judgement call, but if he pulled it back over the line and the little light goes off and the Ref is instructed to award a goal when the light goes off well, then, thats a goal.
