With the 186th OA pick the Flames select D Stepan Falkovsky.
Welcome to the Flames!
was awesome at the WJC
6'7'' 225lbs
Ranked #176 by Hockeyprospect.com
Ranked #91 by NHL Central Scouting (NA Skaters)
A gigantic two-way defenceman that displays good offensive and defensive instincts. Quicker decision making is something he will have to work on, but he has already shown progress as he develops into a reliable two-way player. Excellent shot and passing ability in the offensive end. Becoming more physical and can create separation decisively. Proactive defensively and shows good instincts when moving the puck out. All-in-all, a poised and reliable defenceman that has the potential to develop into a strong, physical two-way player. Hey, awesome, love it.
I would have been fine with him in the third round, I think Caged Great wanted him in the late 1st!

Turns 20 this December, could play in the AHL this year. Going back to the 67's probably makes more sense though.

Falkovsky, Tuulola, Mattsson combined with Fox, Phillips and Dube brings the draft size average to NHL norm.

If the reports are true, how'd a kid with his size and skill fall to the 7th...??!?!?!?!

Thought he would have went in the 2nd/3rd round with his size and offensive skill.
He does have a bunch of things to work on, but has enough there that he'll be an interesting player. I like him the best of three big D-men.
I'm a fan of using late round picks on huge players like Falkovsky or Bruce or Ollas-Mattson.
