Its not like the Canucks haven't made up fiction in the past. You know the whole that ref said he was going to get us for making him look bad rant by Burrow's I think.
Lets be honest Bieksa's habit of fighting down a class to make him look tough points to an integrity issue.
Plus he's saying this because his coach is in trouble.

Yeah, he picked Smid and still lost his fight. Voting was 53% to 34.5% for Smid. Looks good on him.

Expect the NHL to announce the John Tortorella suspension soon. Only details that I've got: between 3 and 10 games. #canucks

Dreger is a tool, but he's not wrong. The NHL is going to come down on Hartley. I was saying $25k earlier, but the That's Hockey panel compared it to Rolston in the pre-season, and that was a $10k fine, so that seems a more likely result.
Of course, that ignores the difference in context. Rolston sent his goon out right after things got ugly. Hartley sent his out at the start of a game. But the context becomes irrelevant when talking heads start making the comparisons. The league has to send a token message about the brawling, and that is why Hartley will get fined.
But it will have been worth it.

Difference I see with that though is the Scott/Rolston fine was for fourth line vs first line when one player made a play worthy of suspension, they decided to carry supplementary discipline to the coach too for that players actions. None of that happened here.
How I interpret it at least

My first post since the end of November, so credit the Calgary coaching staff and fourth line for at least getting my attention.
While the opinion of many coaches and players from other teams was that Tortorella had to put out his fourth line in response, there seems to be no one defending his over-the-top overreaction to it (i.e. screaming between the benches and trying to get in the Flames room).
For example, Carlyle was asked to comment. He wouldn't say much on the brawl itself, but he did say this:
“Our job as a coaching staff is to remain calm and be the peacekeeper ... don’t add fuel the fire,” Carlyle said.
“It’s important for players to understand that as a coaching staff, you are there to keep the peace. I get it, I get the heat of the battle and emotions running high. We all make decisions we’d like to take back, the heat of the moment-type thing.”

I think Tortorella "broke the code" here by trying to start an incident with the Flames coaches. For that more than anything, he will get suspended and fined.

Tortorella's suspension is retroactive to yesterday, so he misses 6 games.

6 games and 2 weeks worth of practices.
My math was wrong. I thought it was 7-8 which would have been a pretty strong statement from the NHL.
Okay suspension. I thought it'd be 7 games but not practices.
$25k for Hartley is a face saving slap on the wrist.

Hope the Flames ownership gives Hartley a 100K bonus.

Don't think it's long enough. You got after the opposing coach in his own dressing room, you should be banned from the game for at least a month. My 2 cents.

6 gamesw/o pay seems justified, but why no fine too (particularly when Hartley gets fined)?
I assume that means no practices, team meetings, etc., etc.
