I doubt he signs for anything over $4m. Just because he was making $4m doesn't mean he automatically has earned another contract at over $4m. With the cap supposedly staying flat I doubt he gets a raise on the open market either.
Too early to be thinking about a contract yet. Let's see how he performs over the balance of the season. With 20 games remaining in a high pressure environment, the Flames will get a better sense about what Stone is worth. I would leave any contract consideration until at or near season end.

As has been noted before, Treliving has a history with the player, player has local roots, and is motivated to sign here.

This is as close to being a sure thing. Stone will be a Flame second-pairing D into next season and beyond. Terms to be determined.

Orettynsurprising the Coyotes couldn't get a 2nd for him or even more. I wonder if the cheap price was an apology from Chyka for spouting off about Hamilton being available earlier in the season?

definitely a case of so far, so good...

hoping that he does work out to be our long term solution at the number 4 slot...

solid trade by BT heading into that late season playoff push...with him and bartkowski, I feel a lot better about the battles we are going into the last 20 games.

So do we re-sign him and send a pick to Vegas to protect him as well? Or take our chances and go after him as a UFA?

I bet he'd be happy to sign here, so I think gambling and negotiating after the expansion draft likely works best.

Seems happy to be here, good situation going forward, familiar with the city, his wife is from here, and as another poster mentioned he was already looking at homes in Calgary last game Arizona played here.

If true maybe the negotiations are done and the deal will be announced June 22nd.

I try not to get too excited because it's still a small sample size and guys like Jokipakka and Nakladal looked good early on too, but so far so good. Style-wise he checks all the boxes and he seems to be a great fit with Brodie. Hopefully he can keep it up!

Looked solid today. Some impressive play along the boards and with his stick, plus a pretty cheeky no-look back pass to clear the zone at one point :wow:

Our defensive mistakes are diminishing substantially. Solid steady play by Stone.

I take back my skepticism. Looks like he's having a good impact so far at just the needed time.

Small sample size, but first impression is good. His physical play should be a bonus in the playoffs.

And the stat line that the advanced crowd couldn't quantify in the Michael Stone trade - TJ Brodie's. Since being paired w/Stone:

A lot to like about his game. Impressive in the corners, impactful in the neutral zone to foŕce dumps, gets pucks on net, sufficiently mobile. Don't have a great read on his passing but he has seemed to be willing to hold on an extra second and break things out properly, which is encouraging.

Its like BT went out and got Hamonic for a 3rd rounder

Big physical right hand shot defensive Dman in his prime with ability to hit the scoresheet once in a while as well.

Pretty much the perfect Dman to partner with Brodie and round out the top 4.

Sure hope they can extend him after the expansion draft

Unlike Jokipakka and Nasladal however Stone was good before coming to Calgary too. Rough season this year but he was a top four guy the previous years.

Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Stone
... that's a legit top 4. Really hope we make it work with the expansion draft.
