Default Calgary Villains Coach doing Apprenticeship at Real Madrid

Congrats to Munib Koric.

Quote:
Munib is the first Canadian to be accepted at Real Madrid for this prestigious apprenticeship. Upon completion, Munib will be the highest certified specialist in Alberta and among an elite handful in Canada who have fully completed this course.

Breakfast Telivision interview:

I played for Munib for a few years, and he's very knowledgeable, but very interesting to say the least. I can remember my first game under him, he praised me in the locker room for my play after the game. My teammate turned to me and said "I've never heard him praise someone like that before". Two practices later, he dedicated the entire practice to yelling at me. Short-lived praise!

Happy for him and the club though. He's developed some really good youth players over the years, and this can only help.

I imagine his curriculum would be interesting;
Besides a Blank Cheque-Book, a media tap-up spin class, and principles in tax evasion ..?

you got wrong, this is an apprenticeship with Zidane, not Perez. So at least he should be an expert in headbutts now

on a serious note - a great opportunity obviously.

So, when do we get the Calgary Foothills / Calgary Villains derby in PDL?

Always good to have more elite coaching at the grassroots level in this country. This, along with the building of better infrastructure, will be the big steps in getting better results at the national level.

Would be tough, as there are a few Foothills players currently playing on Villains in indoor. Massimo Megna and Dean Northover off the top of my head.

Hmmm take away them and the 3 players trialing with Whitecaps 2 and there's no one left! Guess Foothills will have to steal more Canada West University all stars for their PDL club....

Well I think the players trialing with the Whitecaps will be back. I don't think they'll make it.

I'd be shocked if Russo was back. He turned down multiple USL offers prior to 2016 and was named the top attacking prospect in PDL at the end of the year. The other two you may be right.

I suppose I could see him making the USL (Whitecaps 2) squad, but I don't think he'll ever be MLS quality. His type of game relies on overpowering the opponent, which is why his game translated so well in the PDL with it being an under 23 league.

He's not even dominating Alberta Major League, which is mens soccer, but it's amateur soccer. His game breaks down when he can't overpower his defender. He doesn't have the speed or foot skills to make up for it either.

Too much Russo, not enough Munib!

No real arguments from me here. Never said he had MLS level talent though, and NA scouts seem to love the big forward who plays the physical hold up game. I think USL / NASL / CPL if it ever happens would be his ceiling. Given that WFC 2 only have one forward signed (Campbell), and the first team isn't very deep at forward, a roster spot is his for the taking IMO.

And with that, back to Munib. Until one of us derails more

Just thought I'd mention that both Russo and Zats were playing last night at the soccer centre...not sure if that means they didn't make it or if they're on a break? From what I had heard they were going to be there for a month though...

EDIT: Apparently they're just back for school and will be heading back out to Vancouver soon.
