Finland takes the opening set 7-5. Just prior to that Vasek service game, he was getting worked on by the trainer (neck/shoulder issue). it feels like this entire Canadian team is being held together with tape and bandages.

Not much to say other than the Finns are very deserving of the win today. Virtanen was the star for Suomi today as he was rock solid in the doubles. Vasek and Alexis hung in the best they could, but the Finns were just too good.

Players love poly strings because they can take massive cuts at the ball and it stays in the court because the strings are hard and less lively than gut and synthetic strings. Taking massive cuts at balls on a daily basis with hard poly strings is going to take its toll on your body.

Yeah, it's going to be tough if not impossible to get a "tour" ball because the various companies (Wilson, Penn, Dunlop etc.) pay a lot of money to be the official sponsor of tournaments throughout the year. I think EE is right, guys need to find the right poly string or perhaps a hybrid of gut and poly to save their wrists, elbows, shoulders etc. because I don't see any change to tennis balls for the foreseeable future.
/By the way, I saw a post about Novak wearing a sleeve again this week prior to Serbia kicking off their Davis Cup play so obviously he's feeling some discomfort again.

Australia advanced to the Davis Cup semi-finals over Czechia 2-1 earlier today and will play Finland on Friday.

Italy has advanced to the semi-finals of the Davis Cup beating the Netherlands 2-1. Jannik Sinner was the star of the day for Italy as he won his singles match to force the doubles decider and then teamed up with Lorenzo Sonego to win the doubles. Italy awaits the winner of Serbia versus UK.

This is a must win for Jack Draper taking on Kecmanovic as I don't think anybody thinks Norrie will beat Novak. It could come down to the doubles once again this week.

That was a high quality match, but in the end, Miomir Kecmanovic was just better in the two tie-breaks and he puts Serbia up 1-0 and likely into the Davis Cup semi-finals barring a major upset by Cam Norrie.
Edit: Novak wins in straight sets 6-4 6-4 over Cam Norrie which means Serbia takes on Italy in the semi-finals and we'll get another Jannik Sinner versus Novak Djokovic clash.

Australia is hoping to go one step further than they did last year at the Davis Cup as they defeated Finland 2-0 earlier today in Malaga. They await the winner of Italy vs. Serbia

Jannik Sinner came out of the blocks flying today versus Novak winning the first set 6-2, but the Serb responded taking set 2 6-2 and we are currently in set 3. Sinner needs to win this to keep Italy alive in the Davis Cup.

So Sinner was down love-40 serving to stay in the match at 4-5 in set 3, wins five straight points to level set 3 at 5-5 and now breaks Novak to serve for the match at 6-5. Incredible stuff in Malaga.
Edit: Jannik Sinner does it and levels things between Italy and Serbia at 1-1. The doubles will decide who takes on Australia in the finals.

Italy takes the deciding doubles as Sinner and Sonego best Djokovic and Kecmanovic 6-3 6-4. Italy will take on Australia for the right to lift (in spirit) that beautiful Davis Cup trophy.

Not everyone can win 29 Davis Cup matches in a row
