Perfect reason why players should be able to be cut, there should be a clause in all contracts that the NHLPA and agents should have to choke on. If their clients are not in acceptable physical condition they can be released outright. Too bad it wasn't that way. Big Stuffed clearly does not give much of a care if he is training or not, guess he is more content using his millions cramming triple cheese burgers and doing shots of warm gravy. Washing it down with pitchers of Chocolate Stout.
I'm a Jets fan and I don't want him cut or released. Partially because like many of said before, his previous dismantling of the Canucks. That and he's just fun to watch, he can be downright awful some nights and amazing the next. If only he played every game like that first pre-season game last year where he drilled 2 players and got into a fight in his first shift.

Try reading a standard player's contract; there are several clauses relating to being in proper condition. If a player isn't in good physical condition during the season (other than due to injury) he can be suspended by his team. If he continues to violate that clause his contract can eventually be terminated.

The players should never give up guaranteed contracts, I don't want to have to figure out guaranteed and non guaranteed money like the nfl. But similarly, the owners should be allowed to buy out whoever they want with no penalty to the cap. The player still gets his money and becomes a free agent, and the team is rid of the headache.
More/all teams should be in favor of this.

Most players take a couple weeks off after the season to get away from everything, and then they get right back into training. Iginla trains 5 or 6 days a week IIRC.
Simply put you can't expect to be in proper physical condition to compete at the NHL level if you do with Buff is doing. I like him too, but I think there is a reason his play tails off halfway through the season.
No way he can have the stamina someone like Iginla does if he neglects proper nutrition/exercise for an apparent long period of time.
That much weight fluctuation can't be good on the guys overall long term health and lungs. Didn't he blow up the last 2 seasons and then was back down by preseason again.

I'm bigger than Buff and in my 40's when you are this size it is really easy to drop 20-40 pounds. So much of the size is water and just bloating from carbs. Without exercise but having a strict diet I would drop 20 pounds in 3 weeks. If exercise and being 20 years younger helps it would be no problem for him.
I do agree that he is a pro and should mantain himself better. I'm sure it would reflect that on the ice too.
