I seriously recommend Suspiria, a Dario Argento film from the 70s. Not one I would describe as scary, but very colorful and just gorgeous to look at.

Dissentowner's list right at the beginning is a nice place to start. It is hard to find recent films that are decent. A couple not mentioned yet :

Zombieland (not as scary, but awesome)
Awakenings (the Brits remember that tension means something)
REC (I have a friend that keeps sending me scary French movies, but it started around this time)
Host (Korean... language doesn't matter, fun movie)
Evil Dead II (if you haven't seen it, if you have watch it again)
The Others (great date movie)
The Ring (what can I say? I thought it was scary)

I'd have to check my collection for anything else. Lots of good classic movies out there too.
