Stafford suspended 1 game for high stick
http://www.tsn.ca/jets-stafford-bann...stick-1.434717
I realize this may be a homer response.. but this is weird. An accidental high stick and it goes to a suspension? Why not just a stiff fine and a warning to keep your stick under better control? It's not like the play was unpunished, either. He got a double minor.

edit: added a video of the suspension explanation with the play

Do you assume that we all watch Jets games or can you post the clip?

Don't think the NHL vids are embeddable.
The only thing I took away from that video is that they used like 12 different camera angles to show the incident, instead of the same angle, over and over and over and over and over and over and over like in the Wideman video. Sorry, don't want to derail thread

I'm fine with a game. As they said in the video, that was pretty reckless, accidental or not.

They said that they accept his assertion that he didn't mean to hit the guy in the head, but he must be held accountable for recklessly swinging his stick the way he did.

Okay I'll make threads about every minor thing every NHL team does from now on.

No problem with a game, looked super dangerous and reckless.

Meh, a suspension seems noteworthy.

1 game isn't too harsh and it was pretty reckless. You have to have a little more control over your stick imo. Most likely didn't intend to hit him in the head so no more than 1 game is necessary.

I'd say a game is totally reasonable for that.

Agreed it wasn't intentional, but it was dangerously stupid. One game is reasonable.
It's what McDonagh and Simmonds should have received as well for their incidents on the weekend.

This is the first time I've heard of a suspension for an accidental high stick. Could it be that the NHL is getting more proactive with handing out suspensions since we no longer have the fighting that once self policed the league?

Didn't Kassian get 10 games for a very similar play?

They should give him 20 games so the arbitrator finds some middle ground.

He got 5 regular season games plus what was left in the preseason. Gagner suffered a broken jaw and missed 13 games.
It doesn't sound like Holden's injury is as bad as Gagner's. I know people don't like it, but the League will almost always take into account the severity of an injury when suspending a player.

Totally reasonable for it to be 1 game. You've got to keep your stick under control.

Ya they are. Right next to the Youtune button . You can use the NHL sheild button to embed them.
