Nice! I'm glad Thompson stayed for another year. I finally finished the season last night, still shocked about Killam. I'm really having trouble understanding his strategy here. The only reason I can think of is he has a sitcom coming out or something.

I love Che and Jost on Weekend Update and I wonder if those two guys could be used in skitches throughout the show.

I've always thought that SNL should almost be like a development school for comedians, you tell them that the max they can be on the show is three years so you have that time to build your on TV comedy resume.

Well we know your thoughts on SNL, but for those people that actually want to enjoy it your idea makes no sense.
I get it, sometimes people get annoyed that a cast member they don't like is still on the air, but every single time SNL has a huge turnover, the show takes about year or two to find itself again.
In fact I'd argue most cast members take right around three years to become solid, A level SNL performers. So what you're suggesting is that just never happens and the show is always starting over and struggling so that it can be used as a tool rather than entertainment?
I'm confused.

I am probably wrong, but I think the point is that there should be some incentive for performers to do their best / shine in the short amount of time they have before they are cut loose.

If I understand it correctly, it wasn't his choice to leave.

?!?!? ...well this suddenly got juicier. He seems to be widely accepted as the most talented male on the show, so to boot him out the door makes me think something very interesting was going on there. Hmm...

SNL doesn't have a large budget. Maybe he just got too expensive.

He was on the Q show the other day - he explained he had one year on his contract, and had other projects going (he is directing a movie with Arnold). He was disappointed not to do a formal farewell season, but he was not surprised and in some ways relieved to be out of that pressure cooker.

"As sad as it was to end one of the most significant chapters of my entire professional career ... there was also some relief," says Killam, who says the "high pressure, high reward" gig required long hours and incredible stamina.
"I will always look back fondly at those 24-hour marathons, but I'm glad to have them behind me."
The actor and new director also sheds light on his foray into feature film with Why We're Killing Gunther, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his new Showtime series Mating.

‘Saturday Night Live’ Adds Three Cast Members for Season 42
http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/satu...42-1201858072/
“Saturday Night Live” has added three new cast members for Season 42: Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor, who will join the Oct. 1 season premiere as featured players.
Day joined “SNL” as a writer in Season 39, with Season 42 marking his first year as a featured player. He served as a co-head writer and cast member on NBC’s sketch show “Maya & Marty” this summer, with previous credits including writing and performing for “Robot Chicken,” “Mad” and “Kath and Kim.” Moffat was a regular performer at iO Chicago and The Annoyance Theatre before joining “SNL.” Villaseñor is an impressionist and stand-up comedian who has lent her voice to “Adventure Time,” “Family Guy” and “TripTank,” in addition to working on Más Mejor, a premium comedy studio from Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video banner that showcases Latino talent.

The Weeknd was the musical guest in episode 2 last year. He also appeared in Episode 14.
Change it up Lorne.

I hope he does it justice. Thought Hammond's Trump was perfect. That being said, Alec Baldwin can do no wrong on SNL as far as I'm concerned. You can tell how much he loves doing SNL every time he does it.

Dammit. 21 pilots stink. Should be Lin-Manuel Miranda and Lin Manuel Miranda.
