Hired new writers too:

More signs of progress at Saturday Night Live: EW has confirmed that the sketch show has added comedians LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones to its writing staff. Their hiring comes two days after SNL announced that New York-based comedian Sasheer Zamata will be the show’s newest featured player. All three women are black — a rarity for SNL, which has featured just four black female cast members in its 39-year history. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

SNL really needs an Asian cast member. Lots of possible hilarious skits missing without one.

Nasim Pedrad is Iranian, but I do agree with your point.

Armisen was part Japanese, and Rob Schneider was part Filipino.

That's what scotch tape is for.

With this new cast member Sasheer they can have a Black Asian female and really cover all the politically correct cast member angles!

You just have to think outside the box.

New cast member girl isn't very good. Comes off as overly edgy in most sketches, and then as fake when she isn't (sleepover skit).

Combined with Drake hosting and it was "Hip Hop" night on the show. Some good bits though besides.

Weekend update will be brutal without Seth.

There's a chance Meyers will still do Update until the end of the season.

Who would replace him next year? Killiam or Beck Bennett I think.

I assumed they were just gonna hand it to Cecily Strong full-time, and these past few months as a duo was just the changing of the guard. Who knows though, maybe it'll stay as a duo with someone else.

As I've mentioned before, I'm not a big fan of Strong on SNL so far, but I actually haven't minded her on Update opposite Meyers. Not sure she could carry it by herself though, guess we'll see what happens

Hip hop night on the show?

Piers Morgan sketch-Not hip hop related
Monologue-A little bit of hip hop in the Jewish/Black Bar Mitvah
BET Hip Hop Classics: okay
Nancy Grace-No hip hop
Drake as the Father-No hip hop
Weekend Update-Nope
Disney Indiana Jones-Nope
Crazy Poetry Lady-Nope
Morning Miami-Nope

So 2 out of 9 sketches had hip hop in them, so that means it's hip hop night?

Give the new cast member a few to adjust and then judge her next year. She is being thrown into SNL due to politics. Most cast members have to learn the ropes and earn a spot before they are put into this situation.

Thought this was a pretty good episode. I am not a fan of Drake (don't really know him), but thought he acquitted himself well.

I particularly enjoyed the cold opening (Kate MacKinnon did a great Bieber), Drake's opening monologue, and the 'hip-hop stars before they were rappers' skit.

On the flip-side, Week-end Update was one of the least funny I've ever seen.

Also, I have really come to enjoy Aidy Bryant as the season has gone on. She is starting to find her voice on the show, and I find it quite funny.

Reminded me of Bruno Mars on SNL in that i didn't know much about him outside of knowing that he was pretty big. Like Bruno, Drake had a presence about him that was quite evident and did a fine job.

The Indiana Jones sketch was far from great, but I thought Drake was very solid there as the lead.

Intro monologue was centred around his rap
BET Sketch
New Years Resolutions
Plus both musical bits.

Its basically just a byproduct of the host/musical guest and them trying to pump as much of the new cast member in. Just not my thing.

That was a solid episode.

I'm really not a fan of the chick who played Nancy Grace.

Great episode and I thought Drake did awesome.

The Indiana Jones skit was amazing, had me rolling on the ground. The Bieber impersonation at the beginning was awesome too.

Bad episode. Drake is a better actor than musician.
