Wasn't referring to those posts; I thought the content of my own would have made that obvious. Not sure why you're taking it upon yourself to presume otherwise? If I was talking about overall progression, I would've said so.
I was referring to the people panicking after 12 games. He'll return to his former self soon enough. Whether you think said former self isn't good enough for the amount he is paid, or isn't following a trajectory of development you're happy with, is different. Good detective work, though.

If only there was some way to read these boards prior to having an account! Oh wait.
(Also, I wasn't being entirely serious about the Oilers fans comment)

He's young, lets hope he figures it out, rather sooner than later as Flames is paying him to figure it out now.
See my response to Bear.

A kid who's feeling some preasure and coming off injury. Not the first young gun to struggle and not the last. He will come into form soon.

It's a case of the "What Have You Done For Me Lately" Syndrome. Monahan gets off to a slow start, therefore he's no good.

The whole top line is struggling. He'll be fine one they get going.

I wonder if its related, at least in part, to the new system. It seems the system promotes a lot of dump and chase which doesn't seem to be working for them. Could be wrong but I don't recall them regularly dumping and chasing prior to this season.

The opposition has been doing a lot to force those dump ins, often lining up all 3 forwards and even a defencemen too along the blueline to prevent either forward from making clean carry-ins.

He is a wicked player I just still think he has gotten progressively slower. Not just this season.
Maybe has been working on strength to much instead of explosiveness.
It's part genetics but I think he can get much faster. If he does it would fit his play style wonderfully and make him that much more consistent.

Eh, Dougie started playing better so it had to be someone. He's no longer the shiny new toy, Bennett and Tkachuk are "the future" now, and Johnny is above reproach. Hopefully Sean's contract isn't too much of an anchor on the fourth line going forward.

Well he has officially been demoted off Johnny's line so there is definitely some merit to the criticism.
That said I'm super excited to see Johnny, Sam, and Brouwer together.

Well, that's the point: we aren't criticizing him for nothing, just wonderful how blind some people are here towards their favorite players.

Haven't seen any comments that suggest anyone is blind. (Pretty much) everyone agrees that he has not played well this year.

The issue some people have is that some posters are prepared to call him a 3rd liner or not very good, simply due to a slump.

The guy has had 3 great seasons.

Lamenting the slump is fine, but let's maintain perspective.

It amazes me how worked up people get when other fans criticize a Flames player on here.

Not a single person on here wants anything other than Monahan (in this example) to develop into an elite player. He's nowhere near that. Yet in a thread titled "Lets talk about Sean Monahan" posters are getting their panties in a twist when some are pointing out why he's not there. What else do you expect on a discussion forum?

We're burying our heads in the sand if we don't think this team has some serious short comings and it sure as hell isn't the bottom lines that are holding us back.

How can the team's alleged #1 Centre have 0 assists through 14 games? Johnny Gaudreau has been singled out consistently this season for his lack of production this season, but to me, Sean Monahan should be feeling the most heat because at the very least, Gaudreau has generated some scoring chances and has created some offensive opportunities at times whereas Monahan hasn't looked remotely dangerous out there. His contract is the one I'm worried about the most going forward. He's not talented enough to carry his own weight and with that gargantuan contract, it could end badly.

Sure was. But to say he's not NHL worthy is just as hilarious.

I never considered him top line material. He took advantage of playing with gaudreau and hudler. Ideal second line center. Once Gaudreau gets going he'll have enough points and enough fans but flames still will be borderline playoffs team max.
