In the 20s you are most likely getting guys who will max out as 2nd liners or 2nd pairng d-men if they hit their full potential, barring anyone surprising dropping and being passed on by the other clubs.
There are also the "risky" picks like Kostin, Comtois, Lilijgren, etc who where highly thought of before this year but because of disappointing draft years have dropped in the rankings, but if your scouting staff think that this year is an aberration and will bounce back, might seem like steals by this time next year.
I know that before this season the Flames were kind of high on Comtois, but I don't know if his bad season was enough to turn them off.
It is also pretty difficult to project who will be there in the 20s. After the top 2, it is pretty much anyone's guess as to how the draft will play out. Scouting lists have very wide variance, one list might have someone as a top 10 pick, 2 others have him in the late 20s.

Button's latest mock, though only the top 15.
The Flames have the 17th overall pick, and I'd say Tolvanen and Valimaki would probably be the consensus best two guys after the guys on Button's list, so the Flames will definitely have the choice of at least one of these players.
The Flames really need to hit on this pick and get some more top talent into the system.
Past the guys mentioned, there's still interesting players like Thomas, Kostin, or Lias Andersson. Maybe Connor Timmins.

I have been following Lane Zablocki, his father coached my son (and Lane's older brother Josh of course) a few years back. Very athletic family.

This particular chart isn't that difficult to understand. It is the powerplay points per game vs even strength points per game.
Players in the lower left quadrant aren't good at producing points in either situation.
Players in the upper left quadrant are implied to be powerplay specialists who put up lots of points on the PP but don't at even strength.
Players in the lower right quadrant put up lots of points at even strength, but not on the PP. Which implies they aren't getting a lot of ice time on the PP and/or their offensive stats aren't propped up by the man advantage
Players in the upper right quadrant are good at producing at both ES and the PP.
Of course there could be lots of other underlying reasons why a player is a certain way (e.g. a player may be in the upper left quadrant because of the team's depth and gets lots more PP time relative to ES time).

For those looking to get a jumpstart on some NHL Draft homework, we've released a 2017 NHL Draft Primer, which runs through our current top-100 prospects. It's a FREE download here: https://futureconsiderations.ca/nhl-draft-primer/
If you look hard enough, there's a promo code in our Primer for those that want to go much, much deeper and pre-order our 2017 NHL Draft Guide.
Enjoy!

Thoughts on Nic Hague?
Big body, physical, can skate
Another Dougie?
Would definitely add contrast to the smaller skilled types we have in the pipeline (Kylington, Andersson, Fox)

I like Nic Hague. He very well could be the best player available at 17.
If the Flames had the choice between Hague and Foote, I wonder who they'd pick.

If the Flames could end up with one of those 2 guys it would be really good. I hope they go after a D in the first this year.

Pipe dream is Owen Tippett falling. We need a pure shooter badly. It's a bonus that he's a RHS RW. Look what Silfverberg does to us with his wrister every game. Besides Monahan, we don't really have any shooters.

I think this is really the kind of draft where the Flames should be looking to move their 1st round pick.

I agree and disagree... if the Flames can get a good young RW or fill an immediate hole then I'd do it (I still think Evander Kane, especially if Buff retains some salary) and give up other assets but it would have to be a really good deal. I just think that even though this isn't a really highly rated draft, there will be some pretty decent players in it. Other teams might be willing to move their picks and if the Flames get a chance to draft Tippet or Foote(or anyone else they really like), they should jump at it. The perceived value of picks isn't that high this year so they likely won't get much for theirs but picking up other firsts won't cost as much either. I'm really high on Tippet, Foote and Hague so if they can get one or more of those guys it would be awesome and I do think there's a chance because I think teams will be more willing to trade this years picks.

I honestly agree as long as its for a good young player in return.
I can definitely see BT using it to get a good young D or G from Vegas after they make their expansion picks. Maybe a package deal that brings the Flames one or both of guys like Manson and Pickard for instance.
However our 2nd and 3rd rounders are already gone and I can't see the Flames heading to the draft with no pick until round 4.

I only trade the first if it's for another Dougie Hamilton type deal (Tyler Toffoli?).

The problem is every other team in the league knows this is a weak draft. So sure, you probably aren't giving up much trading a 1st. But you probably aren't getting much back either.
