That level of depth is pretty impressive. There are 6 guys there I'd be comfortable with deputising on the bottom pairing if need be.
Hickey, Kulak or Wotherspoon could see some action if the Flames clinch and are looking to rest a defender or two before the post-season.

It's seems like the flames now have a glut of defencemen which might make it harder to entice Hickey and Fox to sign here

My guess is that some of these potential NHL defensemen get turned into potential top six forwards over the summer.

Are you saying that we trade some of them for forward help or turn them into forwards?

We don't. Well... we probably don't, not any more then the average NHL team anyways. A constant across all sports is fans overrating their own teams prospects.
Even if they do (have a glut of defensemen) young NHL calibre D-men are probably the most sought after asset in the NHL so the team would either move you for other assets or move other more expensive assets for you. Either way organizational depth isn't likely to be an impediment.

Flames have a whopping 3 Dmen signed at the NHL level so you are wrong

Remember when Tom Ericksson thought he would not get any playing due to a glut of defencemen?

This is a lot like the Jankowski thing from last year, but in this case there's really no urgency. It took some time, but ultimately Treliving got the player signed with a lot of team friendly conditions. Brad has shown that he'll be patient in working thru his process, and he's likely being diligent again.

It's very likely that we lose 5 x Dmen over the summer, 3 x via FA (Wideman, Engelland, Kostka), and 2 x not being qualified (Wotherspoon, Morrison).
Plenty of space in the organization for young guys.

Sounds like exams at BU holding things up. At least that's what is holding up McAvoy with signing with Boston right now.

BU coach expects Hickey to be back next season:

But, the question begs asking: Who returns from this star-studded Terrier team that sent seven skaters to the 2017 World Junior Championships and included 11 NHL Draft picks? It turns out, nearly the whole group.
Talking at length on Wednesday in his Agganis Arena office, Quinn said that he fully expects junior defensemen John MacLeod (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Brandon Hickey (Calgary Flames) to be back, and the same goes for sophomore forwards Jordan Greenway (Minnesota Wild) and Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (Boston Bruins).
Meanwhile, he said that freshman defenseman Dante Fabbro (Nashville Predators) and freshman forward Kieffer Bellows (New York Islanders) will also be around for the 2017-18 campaign.
“The great thing is all these guys want to come back to BU,” Quinn said. “If anybody else leaves it’s because somebody really pushed hard and painted a scenario where it’s, ‘Wow, it’s going to be hard for me to pass that up.’ It’s not because guys want to leave.”

It is taking longer than expected. Too bad, we may have to trade his right.

I hope he signs but maybe he's weighing that he could wait a year and give himself a better shot at an immediate nhl gig with another team more in need of a defenceman right away... In reality there are only two spots open unless someone gets traded and a long list of guys who could certainly jump in. Same will happen with Fox unless he turns pro after next year ( which I suspect will happen)
